A Story Just Begun, by bergann. Slash, Colby Granger/Evan Lorne. (ca. 3,930 words)
Numb3rs/SGA
This is an "SGC goes public" story, set after season 5 and assumes that they can't hide a floating city in the San Fransisco Bay. I liked how that was handled and thought Numb3rs was fit in well.

Eat it Twilight, by liliaeth. Gen. (ca. 45,775 words)
Criminal Minds/Supernatural
Crossing these universes is a match I really enjoy, and this one gives a great outsider POV on the Winchesters, and the story worked well from both series' worldbuilding perspectives.

The Once And Future Pain In My Ass, by Ras Elased. Slash, Merlin/Arthur. (ca. 6,000 words)
Dresden Files/Merlin
Normally I'm not that interested in fanfic that transposes Merlin to present day and has him look for Arthur's reincarnation, but mixed with Dresden Files like in this story it works for me, because Merlin hires Dresden and we get his POV on the Merlin scenario. Unfortunately this story doesn't give us their whole quest, but even this setup of their first meeting is a lot of fun.
ratcreature: RatCreature smokes Crack (crack)
Avatar the Last Airbender

Enslaved by sharkflip. Het, Katara/Zuko. WIP (ca. 98,000 words so far)
In this AU Zuko is captured by the Water Tribe and adapts. It's still a WIP and I'm enjoying the worldbuilding with the Water Tribe, though I'd really like to find out more about when and how the war went differently in the past on the larger scale. Still, it's very enjoyable.

Merlin

The Peasant King, by a8c_sock. Slash and some het, Merlin/Arthur, Balinor/Hunith. (ca. 37,000 words)
This rec comes with the caveat that the story misses the final editing polish (I'm not assuming this merely because of the remaining typos, but because some beta notes in brackets are still in the posted version), so you need a certain level of tolerance for this. However the premise is quite cool in that Ygraine survives rather than Uther, and flees with her infant son to protect him from the ensuing chaos. Arthur grows up with Merlin and Will, and eventually he tries to win back his throne.

The Young Dragonlord, by Eldee. Gen, with some background Balinor/Hunith and Uther/Ygraine. (ca. 58,000 words)
In this AU Balinor stuck around to raise Merlin. I enjoyed both the background story and how this changed the present.

Post hoc, ergo propter hoc ('After this, therefore because of this') , by hitome_bore. Slash, Merlin/Arthur. (ca. 95,000 words)
This mixes Merlin with The Sword in the Stone, that is Arthur finally finding out about Merlin's magic has gone horribly wrong, so Merlin decides to time travel and befriend a younger Arthur as his teacher.

Arcane Asylum, by new_kate. Slash, Merlin/Arthur, Merlin/Edwin. (ca. 126,000 words)
I can only rarely get into Modern AUs in Merlin, but this one has great worldbuilding. It still has magic and prophecy and all the fun stuff, and both characters and certain plot elements form the series were transplanted well into the present day, without it seeming forced or too contrived.

Numb3rs

Lucky by Leah Harper. Gen. (ca. 24,500 words)
In this AU Don and Charlie's estrangement lingers longer, and I enjoyed this angstier version of their relationship.

Sherlock

Asterioidea and Highly Intelligent, Observant, and Destructive When Bored, by etothepii. Gen, Sherlock and Mycroft, and Slash, Sherlock/Watson. (ca. 1,850 and 5,000 words)
This is a His Dark Materials fusion with a great twist.

Star Trek: Reboot

Homo homini lupus, by Casspeach and Chaosraven. Slash, McCoy/Chekov. (ca. 13,600 words)
This is a Viking AU done as collaboration for the Trek Reverse Bang. The art was lovely, and Bones as somewhat reluctant Viking raider was great.

Knives in the Water, by green_postit and steam_pilot. Slash Kirk/McCoy. (ca. 18,500 words)
This is a collaboration done for the Trek Reverse Bang, and the art is very stylish, with a stark, noir-like atmosphere. The story is a gangster AU, and it had me really hooked, even though I'm normally not that into Star Trek AUs not somehow still set in space. It convinced me of them as mob for the duration of the story, and how Bones was drawn into this was great. Also, normally I don't emphasize warnings again in my recs that the header gives, but the warning for torture and abuse on the story is really not kidding, it was great, but brutal and intense.

Like A Riot (Don't Need Order), by Jane Potter. Slash, mainly Kirk/Spock. (Some stories are finished, but the universe is still a WIP.)
In this AU Vulcan is isolationist, and Earth has an alliance with the Orions. Meanwhile Kirk, Spock & Co. set out to become space pirates. The universe is still a WIP and I like the first story more than some of the later parts, and some of the characterization (in particular of McCoy as this kind of alcoholic) doesn't really work for me, however this is still quite a lot of fun to read.

In Which We Change, by salvaged_pride. Slash, Kirk/McCoy. (ca. 14,160 words)
This is a AU with Kirk as werewolf, and I really like the werewolf premise here that the wolf is not aware of the human self, and how it was handled.

X-Men

The Uncertain Trumpet, by bliumchik. Het, Scott/Jean. (ca. 525 words)
This is just a short comment fic, but with the cool premise that the material for Scott's glasses hadn't been developed, and yet he still manages as a member of the X-Men in the field (through his connection to Jean) while truly blind.
ratcreature: RatCreature smokes Crack (crack)
My RL is rather stressful at the moment, and since yesterday I have a nasty cold on top of everything else. (Thanks a lot, body. Not.) Anyway last night I woke several times both from shivers as well as from weird suffocation nightmares in which I peeled sticky layers of mucus out of my throat (even though my cough and sore throat aren't all that bad, certainly not bad enough to hinder breathing, but the phlegm is the hard-to-cough-up kind, so my throat feels constantly icky and covered in something, which is what I assume manifested itself in my dreams in even worse ways :P). </gross tmi>

However, as I've spent the morning so far huddling under my blanket drinking fluids and dosing myself with paracetamol in hopes it'll help with the muscle aches and the shivering, I used that time to compile some AU recs:

Merlin
Leashed, by Riventhorn. Slash, Arthur/Merlin. (ca. 12,800 words)
The premise here is that Uther doesn't kill all sorcerers but enslaved some. Admittedly slavefic AU with mindcontrol elements is sort of like catnip as far as my kinks go, but this is not a kink wallow.

Numb3rs

Sacrifices of the Keeper, by Pygmymuse. Gen. (ca. 28,340 words)
In this AU Don and Charlie's parents are killed in a car accident, when Charlie is still a teenager.

Stargate: Atlantis

Strangers When We Meet, by Jendavis. Slash, John Sheppard/Ronon Dex. (ca. 14,000 words)
In this AU the expedition encounters a Sateda that didn't fall. I really like how the society was developed here, and seeing different aspects of Ronon.

Star Trek: Reboot

Take Refuge in What You Know, by Corpus Invictus. Slash, Kirk/Spock. WIP
Kirk and Spock are neighbors, and Spock is agoraphobic. Which sounds like a weird premise, but I'm enjoying how their relationship develops here, and the story makes this work.

Walls Burning, Towers Turning, by Leftarrow. Slash, Kirk/Pike. (ca. 5,000 words)
This is a fantasy AU with really neat worldbuilding.

Fighting Gravity, by Pantswarrior. Slash, Kirk/Spock. (ca. 138,700 words)
In this AU Spock doesn't join the Enterprise for its first mission. He and Kirk run into each other on earth afterwards, and this story slowly develops their relationship and reveals the backstory of what happened to Spock.

The Will of the Force, by Verizonhorizon. Slash, Kirk/Spock. WIP
This is a fusion with Star Wars, with Vulcans as Jedi.

Supernatural

My Life's Come Off Its Tracks, by mimblexwimble. Gen. (ca. 28,700 words)
In this AU Dean gets sick as a child, forcing the Winchesters to adjust. We see events from through Sam's eyes and I find good children's POVs really rare, but this one worked for me.
ratcreature: RatCreature smokes Crack (crack)
Doubt, by ALEO. Gen, Don Eppes. (ca. 8,300 words)
Numb3rs/Supernatural
I recced the previous two stories in this series already (Unexplained and Explained), and this one is a good read too. The Supernatural world functions more as a vehicle for Don-whump than as equal crossover partner in this one, but it's not as if I dislike seeing Don hurt, and angst while he adjusts his worldview to the supernatural.

Unwilling Oracle, by Beatrice Otter. Gen, John Crichton, Kira Nerys. (ca. 1,870 words)
Farscape/Star Trek: Deep Space 9
This has a really cool premise meshing the wormhole mythologies.

Angels in the Architecture , by Davincis_girl. (ca. 12,000 words)
Supernatural/Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
I think the two universes are a great mix, especially when it comes to the various teenage experiences of growing up with pseudo-military training, and here John Connor travels back to 1999 and gets the teenaged Sam and Dean to help him.

Downloaded series, by Ennyousai. Slash and het, Kirk/McCoy, Scotty/Six. WIP (for the series, the stories are finished)
Battlestar Galactica (2003)/Star Trek: Reboot
I'm not familiar with BSG, but the author's notes said it would work if you just knew ST and it did work great as a Star Trek AU.

The Time Has Come to Be Gone, by Jujuberry136. Gen. (ca. 28,950 words)
Criminal Minds/Supernatural
I enjoy stories with the Criminal Minds team meeting and dealing with the Winchesters, and this one is a good action/case story.

The Mutant Problem, by Katt. Gen. (ca. 7,900 words)
Spider-Man/X-Men
This is a very cool multimedia fanfic in the form of a fictional photo essay by Peter Parker.

Pigs in Spaaaaaaaace, by Kayim. (ca. 2,580 words)
Muppets/Star Trek
How could I not love a crossover between Star Trek and Pigs in Space?

For I Have Been a Stranger in a Foreign Land, by Mortigi_tempo. Slash, Kirk/Spock. WIP (ca. 10,000 words so far)
Dune/Star Trek: Reboot
This is a very cool crossover setup. Kirk and Spock get stranded on Arrakis.

Northern Lights, by Se_parsons. Gen. (ca. 9,700 words)
Supernatural/The X-Files
In this one we get an outsider POV of the Winchester family as Mulder and Scully run into them during an investigation.

To Become Immortal, First You Have to Die, by ShadowLoverK. Gen. (ca. 3,200 words)
Highlander/Star Trek: Reboot
Kirk is an immortal and has his first death from an allergic reaction during the movie.

Abnormal Psychology (ca. 1,440 words) and A Sam Adams Moment (ca. 1,500 words), by Siriaeve. Gen, Sweets, John Sheppard.
Bones/Stargate: Atlantis
Sweets working for the SGC is just an awesome and funny premise.

A Thousand Pages, by Tartanshell. Gen, Scott Summers, Matt Murdock. (ca. 6,250 words)
Daredevil/X-Men
In this Matt and Scott were penpals fo a while as teenagers, then meet again as adults.
ratcreature: RatCreature smokes Crack (crack)
Seven Moments, by Barrowjane. Gen. (ca. 1,300 words)
Sandman/Star Trek: Reboot
There's just something about other characters meeting the Endless that I really enjoy, and this example of the genre is no exception.

Down The Rabbit Hole, by Bluflamingo. Slash, Colby/Lorne, Colby/Daniel. (ca. 10,000 words)
Numb3rs/Stargate: Atlantis/Stargate: SG-1
I like how this handles the relationships, the complications that come with dating outside of your secret alien conspiracy, and the way the SGC happens to tangle with the FBI here works for me too.

People Who Repair Quantums, or Five Planets The Enterprise Never Visited, by Ignipes. Gen. (ca. 2,800 words)
Star Trek: Reboot/Alien/Discworld/Doctor Who/Dune/Star Wars
I really enjoyed the crossovers for which I was familiar with the sources, also, while I don't know Discworld, the bit where Spock reacts to the flat disc and giant turtle and so on in space was awesome.

Bright White Light, by lilacsigil. Gen. (ca. 35,000 words)
Supernatural/X-Files
This is set during the X-Files episode "Fallen Angel", which I barely remembered, but the story still worked for me. We get the events of the episode but seen from the perspective (and worldview) of young Sam and Dean. I thought it was really cool how one side believes it's all aliens, and the other it's all supernatural and I was wondering what was really going on. And I liked Sam and Dean adventuring.

Exiles, by nwhepcat. Gen, Oz, Sam. WIP
The premise here is that Sam runs into Oz during Mystery Spot. I found this via Cofax and am really enjoying it so far. The parts are all quite short, but it is updated very often.

a fucking space opera (or Six Characters Who Didn't Board the USS Enterprise), by Oxoniensis. Gen. (3,169 words)
Star Trek: Reboot/Harry Potter/Merlin/Stargate Atlantis/Supernatural/Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
In the best tradition of wacky crossovers, this was simply a lot of fun.
ratcreature: RatCreature smokes Crack (crack)
Unexplained, by ALEO. Gen, Don Eppes. (ca. 4,260 words)
Numb3rs/Supernatural
During a serial killer investigation Don runs into the Winchesters. I enjoyed Don's outside POV of Sam and Dean here.

Temporary Alliances, by Cofax. Gen. (ca. 1,930 words)
Stargate: SG-1/Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
This is short, but has a great Jack POV, as SG-1 runs into a Terminator and Sarah Connor & co.

Connecting Dots & Straight Lines, by This Fish Flies. Slash, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay. (series, ca. 2,500 words so far)
Numb3rs/Stargate: Atlantis
This is mostly fluff with the premise that Sheppard is somehow related to the Eppes, but fun to read.
ratcreature: RatCreature smokes Crack (crack)
Numb3rs

Breaking the Code, by jlm110108. Gen. WIP
This is still a WIP, but I'm really enjoying it so far, and it seems to get updated fairly regularly. I don't know the series it is a crossover with, Foyle's War, but I like the AU premise here that has Charlie as cryptographer during WWII and Don as American soldier.

Stargate: Atlantis

Born in the Barrens, by Eildon Rhymer. Gen. (ca. 60,000 words)
It's no secret that I have a slavefic kink and a soft spot for amnesia fic, and here both go together like chocolate and hazelnuts. Still, I think even readers not sharing these kinks will enjoy this story for its good mix of angst, h/c, world-building, adventure and later on team interaction.

Until Love Can Find Me, by Isagel. Slash, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay. (ca. 10,900 words)
This is another one in the growing genre of Vegas-verse AUs. I really liked this take on Vegas!John, and found it an interesting variant of possible futures there, because John survives but actually doesn't get recruited by the SGC.

A Narrow Bridge, by Kass. Slash, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay. (ca. 18,430 words)
I thought this was one of the more unusual SGA AU scenarios I've encountered, and only in part because it's a non-stargate AU that put them in a yeshiva instead, which is quite a step from SF soldier hero with geek sidekick, but even more because it's unusual that in an AU John and Rodney do more or less both the same thing, rather than meeting by chance. Still I enjoyed the AU, and I liked the glimpses we got of their backstories (I'd totally read a prequel to this giving me more of this John's history).

Iron and Steel, by Leah. Slash, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay. (ca. 57,300 words)
I've recced all the other stories in this series with John and Cameron as AIs already, and continue to love the universe. In this installment they encounter an alternate universe robot!Cam from a more dystopian universe.

In a Grain of Sand, by Sarah T. Gen, John Sheppard. (ca. 540 words)
This is very short and I don't want to spoil it, but it's a cool, twisted premise, and posted as part of the "Skeevy Ancients" flashfic challenge for a reason.

you already know how this will end, by Sarah T. Het, John/Teyla, Teyla/Michael, Teyla/Kanaan. (ca. 15,000 words)
This is a sequel to Sequelae by The Spike which I have previously recced. And I really like this hopeful resolution to that story.

Reversals, by Sealie. Gen. (ca. 750 words)
I love stories in which a Pegasus expedition for Atlantis is mounted, and Atlantis then belongs to the Pegasus peoples rather than Earth finding it first. The only downside of this story is that it sets this up, but isn't actually an epic with this premise.
ratcreature: RatCreature smokes Crack (crack)
For some reason I haven't read many good crossovers recently so this isn't a set of recs like usual, but this one was fun:

Redefinition, by bluflamingo. Slash, Colby Granger/Evan Lorne, Cadman/Simpson. (ca. 6,790 words)
Numb3rs/SGA
This is more angsty than happy, but I liked this take on how hard it must be to have a cross-galaxy relationship.

Unrelated, it seems like much of my f-list is working towards or already in a turkey-induced coma, it's so quiet.
ratcreature: RatCreature begs: Please? (please?)
Does anyone know good places to find Don-centric Numb3rs recs? Or has any recs? I don't read Don/Charlie incest, and most of the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van recs so far are that, though the current reccer is inclined towards gen, but hasn't posted many recs yet. I only read Numb3rs occasionally so I don't really know where to look. Gen and het are fine, as is non-incest slash.

I tried browsing [livejournal.com profile] numb3rsficfind but much like its SPN and SGA counterparts this seems more of a hit and miss way to find stories, also it lured me (in that "curiosity killed the cat" way) to follow a link to a multiple fandom crossover in which people turn into dragons, which could have been kind of cool only there were also souldbonds and it got worse from there, at least as far as I could tell from skimming it.
ratcreature: RatCreature smokes Crack (crack)
I updated my crossover recs page.

Take a Long Line, by Derry667. Gen, Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester, Don Eppes, Charlie Eppes, Alan Eppes. (ca. 22,000 words)
Numb3rs/Supernatural
The Winchesters are trying to stop a psychic arsonist at CalSci, which we see through the eyes of the Eppes. I liked how competent Sam and Dean were in this story as well as the the outsider look at them.

Defect, by Kikkimax. Gen, ensemble. (ca. 39,600 words)
Criminal Minds/Supernatural
This is set after the second season finale of Supernatural. While Sam tries to get Dean out of the deal with the demon with the help of Bobby and Ellen, Dean is taken into custody by the FBI and interrogated and evaluated by the BAU team. I really enjoyed the take of the profiler team on Dean, and how they try to make sense of him and revise their opinions without ever actually buying into Dean's supernatural worldview.

Untitled snippet, by Pentapus. Gen. (ca. 230 words)
Highlander/Stargate: Atlantis
This is just a brief snippet, but it is a very neat idea to merge the mythologies of the two shows.

Take Atlantis, by Siegeofangels. Gen. (ca. 800 words)
Muppet Show/Stargate: Atlantis
This is quite short, and doesn't really have a plot beyond "the Muppets visit Atlantis", OTOH having the Muppets on Atlantis is awesome and funny.
