Oh, honey, it really isn't. I mean, yeah, I'll never regret having put out 1200 dollars for emergency surgery for my first dog -- we got two whole extra years out of it -- but, well, it was a one-time thing.

And my experience with *chronic* things... is my grandmother, and her slow, painful-for-everyone-because-damn-she-got-abusive decline via Alzheimer's. By the end, even my mother -- for whom Nana was mother and *closest friend* -- was praying for an end to pain, and feeling the stress and strain and expense and --

No, you're human, and this is a world where loving care *does* mean often crippling expense. There's no way not to go there in your head, you know?
