Fair enough; that's what I get for speculating when I haven't seen all the available episodes. I do seem to remember that kind of thing happening once in a while back when I watched SG-1 and I wonder if it's a holdover from that fandom. And I agree it does have problematic implications, although I think in most cases it's more a matter of lazy writing than anything conscious.
