Krümel health update

It turned out that the ongoing problem with Krümel's eye was likely caused by one of the stitches from the cornea that was still in and had grown attached to the inside of the lid, which irritated it. In a prior appointment the vet had removed those stitches that held the eyelids together, but the stitches on the cornea were supposed to be of the type of thread that dissolves on its own as the wound heals. Only this one didn't and instead grew into the lid or something. I'm actually a bit unsure how that worked exactly. Also it was in a place that apparently wasn't visible with the normal checkup exam, but only under sedation when the eye could be manipulated and looked at without Krümel fighting him, so they didn't notice right away.

Anyway the vet has now removed that stitch yesterday, which caused the inside of the lid bleed a little again afterwards, so Krümel still has to get one type of gel three times a day for another two days, but after that the vet expects it to be okay. He said that the cornea itself had healed, and if the eye still stays withdrawn further back, it's likely just a cosmetic problem, since Krümel doesn't act like he's in pain, and it might still normalize over time.

So the end of many weeks of administering eyedrops to a struggling rat several times a day is in sight, and hopefully I shouldn't have to bring him in again for this. *crosses fingers*

To counter the longish and boring details about the health of my rat, here's a cute photo of Krümel curled up with Ignatz behind my VCR -- you can also see the rodent damage to the (unplugged) cables, indicating that I'll probably have to buy some new ones, should I want to watch something on my tv rather than my computer again.
