I never understood this need some authors seem to have to insult the very people who buy their works. Also IMO whoever thinks that there are masses of (potential) "real" comic readers who aren't comic fans is kidding themselves. Comics in general and superheroes in particular are a niche market, that maybe can expanded a bit or at least stabilized instead of shrinking if things go well, but I don't expect to see a return to the days gone by when comics had huge print runs as a true mass media.
