I mentioned this in a comment on the LJ version of this post, that I think my dissatisfaction comes from eating less protein than usual. I'm vegetarian and aside from dairy I get that obviously from plain legumes and grains, which make up the bulk of protein of my food (I'm not a tofu product person). And I sometimes put canned beans in cold salads, but I don't find that very tasty, and for other more tasty cold bean things (dips, hummus and such) you need to do some cooking first. And and aside from bread I didn't have much grain stuff on these hot days either.
