It's really charming that they imagined the ship's computer talking, but not doing all the calculations, but imagined that there'd still be hands on calculation, possibly of their navigation? I think plane crews used the circular ones a lot. Of course older SF is always full of obsolete technology, but still. Now I imagine Spock as the slide rule champion at the Academy, because of course he'd rock with it...
