drawing, well, the entry is more me whining...

Sometimes I wish I hadn't given away those Ken and Barbie dolls I owned as a kid. Though I'm not quite sure whether their mobility range would have been sufficient. I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with a sketch and I can't (btw, the motif isn't indecent, for all of you with a vivid imagination, I don't draw sex scenes *grin*). The pose of just one person I can usually figure out on paper, and of course I can pose myself in front of a mirror to see what something would look like, or photograph myself, etc. But two people? This sucks. It looks still odd and I'm at my fourth try to realize the pose I see in my head.

BTW, the drawing that is very much not progressing at the moment might turn into a Nightwing/Daredevil illustration for which I had an idea yesterday. A while ago kerithwyn mentioned that she'd like to see Daredevil/Nightwing when I asked about Daredevil/Spider-Man fanfic, and obviously the pairing somehow stuck in my subconscious or something, because now I have this image in my head.

That's a serious drawback to living alone. If I had roommates I could draft them to pose for me. Alternatively I need better 3D-visualization abilities. Or action figures with a lot of mobility. *grumble*

I'm sorry for your frustration, but just the fact that you're contemplating drawing NW/DD fills me with glee. I can't even manage stick figures, so anything you come up with would please me greatly. ;)

You could get yourself some artist manikins. They're usually not that expensive for the little ones, and they're much better for posing than action figures. :)

Well, I own one such figure, but it is pretty useless for most poses I have problems with, because they're not mobile enough. I have problems mostly with crouching, cowering, jumping figures etc. where the limbs and the rump overlap a lot (especially when two humans overlap each other), and it is impossible to make these figures crouch and bend like humans. And I don't even mean artistic action poses, I mean things that even an unbendy, stiff human like I do regularly.

Heh. I have this vague scene in my head, which is getting more elaborate and insistent, so that I have a hard time ignoring it as I usually do with vague illustration ideas. I'm usually only interested in a drawing if I have a story in my head going with it, and since I don't tend to have story ideas, I rarely draw anything. Also I'm actually a fairly non-visual person, that is I don't often see stuff in my head. Not drawing anything contributes of course to a vicious cycle because I then obviously lack practice, making each drawing that I do attempt so much harder.

Anyway, the fantasy picture in my head as of now is a kind of defeated Daredevil maybe set during Out, it's obviously a dark, rainy night or something (because the weather in Hell's Kitchen sucks almost as bad as in Gotham, so it's always raining), after Daredevil won another fight with some second rate villain yet feels he accomplished nothing, there's some visual clues it's after a fight maybe some blood splatter on his gloves. Anyway, he sinks down on this rooftop (I have a thing for rooftop locations, must be a kink), exhausted, yet unwilling to go home, then Nightwing shows up (I haven't figured out why he would be there, how an x-over could work or what exactly their relationship is, or anything like that, if my fantasy scenes had plausible backstories I'd probably write fanfic), sits down behind Daredevil, and embraces him to offer comfort.

I can sympathize. I actually have a hard time to visualize stuff myself, if I don't have photographs or other drawings to help me. Anyway, since not making much progress with a drawing is still better than doing the stuff on my intimidating To-Do list, and I don't feel quite as bad about my continued avoidance and procrastination this way than I would were I to simply watch tv and read fanfic to occupy myself, I'll probably give it a couple of more tries. So it might still turn into a drawing eventually. I guess I just need to whine every now and then.
