how do you currently tag filter on Tumblr?

I used to do this with that Tumblr Savior script thing, but it must have gone glitchy at some point without me noticing, because right now when I add stuff to its filter list it doesn't hide the posts.

I'm trying to not be spoiled for the new X-Men movie until I watch it, and I have been just staying away from Tumblr the last few days, but apparently Tumblr has by now become a thing that I have a routine impulse to check. So having a working tag filter again would be helpful.

Tumblr Savior stopped working for me, too. I use XKit now. It has a blacklist and a lot of other stuff I don't actually use, but the blacklist works. It filters tags as well as text.

I looked at XKit a while ago, but it seemed total overkill for just wanting a blacklist, like one of these things that reconfigure everything in Tumblr, plus its instructions warned against conflicts with Stylish and Greasemonkey... but desperate times and all, so I disabled the nonworking Tumblr Savior and that Tublrh8te greasemonkey script that let you vanish individual posts and I installed XKit and its Blacklist extension. And it works! It still seems a bit like using a giant Rube Goldberg machine just to have a blacklist effect at the end, but whatever. :D

The nice thing about xkit is that there's a tweak somewhere & you can enable showing the tags of blocked posts, so you can tell if it's really something you want to see or not-- like if you block "spoilers" and someone tags "#spoilers #x-men first class" and you've already seen that, then you can expand the post & see it. Although in rare cases if someone tags something like "#spoilers #days of future past #they killed raven!!!!!!" then you can be spoiled even without looking at the post. But I like seeing the tags in most cases.

Weird. Maybe it interacts with other extensions and goes glitchy then? I didn't do any real debugging, like disabling everything and then checking whether it works on its own, and the reenabling addons one at a time, mostly because testing in this case means looking for spoilery Tumblr posts to show or not show. But I mean, I don't seem to be the only one for whom it stopped working, while it keeps working for others, so I suspect it doesn't like the browser setups of some.

Yes, I didn't troubleshoot either, I just wanted the things I don't like to see gone. But there were a lot of other people mentioning that it stopped working for them, too.

I installed xkit when tumblr savior stopped working, and it's much better. Even if you just want it for Blacklist I recommend it. I use only very few of the other features myself. It doesn't slow my browser down in any way like TS did.

The only thing is that at one point there was a glitch and I had to reinstall, also had to reinstall Blacklist and start from scratch. But the setup only takes a few minutes.

I don't really use any unusual extensions, so if the reason is some conflict it's probably with something also popular.

Yeah, it seems to work very well, and it is comfortable to use, I'm just a bit wary of big extensions with a lot of powerful settings, that I don't really want to bother to look into and understand, and then have to trust that the defaults won't break things for me.

But well, I need to hide the X-Men posts until Wednesday when I'll watch the movie, and in general having a working blacklist again would be nice, to filter some things I'm not interested in again.

Yeah, tumblr without any filtering tool is impossible if you spend any amount of time there.

Yeah, but using Tumblr Savior a user who had blocked "spoiler" and "days of future past" wouldn't see the "they killed raven" tag, just "Tumblr Savior has blocked a post tagged #spoiler #days of future past", right? IDK, that's how I remember it working-- I've used xkit for a while now. The feature that shows *all* the tags of a post with a blacklisted tag is new, so people haven't adjusted to it yet.

I use Tumblr Savior myself (and I'm glad you mentioned this, because I needed to add keywords about the new movie to my filters!).

That's odd though, because I haven't had a problem with it. I've heard that if you have too many keywords in the list, it really slows down, and for me there's a lag between my dash loading, and posts being hidden -- perhaps it's slowed down to the point where it just stopped, and removing some filter words would help?

Considering that previously only two words were on my list (one of the artists I'm following posted a lot in some anime fandom I'm not into, so I added that fandom and its acronym) I don*t think it being too long is a problem...

I wonder if maybe uninstalling and reinstalling it would fix it?

That's really frustrating, though. And I don't know of another way to do it; Tumblr Savior seems to be what everyone uses.

On DW someone said that XKit has a Blacklist function too, and that works now for me. It's a bit of overkill because it's one of these things that rearranges all of Tumblr with tons of customization and features I don't want or need, and XKit asks you disable all other Tumblr scripts/extensions (so I had to disable Tumblrh8te that let me hide individual posts and the non-working TumblrSavior (and you have to download the Blacklist extension within XKit, because it is not part of the default), but I have now a blacklist again.
