seperis was talking about SGA as well as about her (apparently quite vicious) rabbits, and I commented that I was wondering when her interests would merge and there'd be a Watership Down/SGA fusion kind of fic with exploring rabbits, who are also appropriately (and realistically) vicious and rack up a huge body count... Somehow the image of the SGA guys as rabbits hasn't left me, besides I think the two would fit remarkably well together, because like I said over there:

"...even as humans they are hunted like rabbits by the Wraith in the Pegasus galaxy, I bet as rabbits they would have invented a cool mythology about that, and the clueless newcomer rabbits are enlightened by the native rabbits about the Wraith (or the rabbit equivalent) with cave paintings, and maybe there are Ancestor rabbits in the mythology too.

And really there's plot/setting analogues already. They set out to find a new home and meet new and different rabbit populations, like they could meet the Warren analogous to the one in the book that have turned from the old teachings and exchanged easy living for acceptance of being eaten, i.e. those who made a deal with the Wraith, and then there's the Genii who could be like the warren Efrafra. And of course some rabbits have special psychic powers like Wraith sensing and the Ancient gene..."

Sadly I don't write fanfic, but I made some fanart based on this idea with John and Rodney as rabbits. The rabbit design is more or less based on Watership Down movie screencaps.

Heh, yeah, it's his "OMG, we are all going to die!" expression. It works quite well on a rabbit. :)

Hee! I love Rabbit!John and Rabbit!Rodney. So cute, especially Rodney with his rabbity body language. All he needs is a carrot flavored Powerbar and he's good to go.

And I will restrain myself from making any 'humping like bunnies' comments. I will not say anything like that, no sir. No way.

Yeah. He's probably explaining how they are all going to die horribly very soon, and of course isn't comforted in the least by legends of black rabbits and such.

Bunnies! Aww!! I'd sadly watch a show with SGA!bunnies.

I'd watch too, I mean who wouldn't? (That is as long as they weren't all fluffy like My Little Ponies or something, but still had real adventures, like the ones in Watership Down do, so that there'd still be action and violence, just with rabbits. *g*)

Something about the shape of John's muzzle makes him look a little bit like a rat to me. He has Ancestor genes-- maybe they looked more like rats? That could make John a ratbit. *g*

Heh. Though I guess Rabbit!Rodney would appreciate a defensible warren more than hugs. *g*

The thing with John's muzzle is probably because I draw rats more often than rabbits, and also I was going for a leaner look for him.

Dear god... I don't think I can deal with the fact that John is Bigwig....

(Okay, actually I'm sitting here giggling, but still --!)

Ah no, at least in the movie Bigwig's hair wasn't nearly as spiky, and he was brown too and heavier. I think of John more like Hazel, not yet experienced as a leader when he starts out and fairly popular, and didn't Hazel risk his own life too rather than that of other rabbits? Maybe Ronon can be Bigwig?

I didn't cast them as specific Watership Down characters (and I'm actually not that into Watership Down, so my recollections of the characters are a bit vague anyway), I think they're their own rabbits in this. Though if anything I'd think of John more as akin to Hazel, maybe.
