yikes

I forget every time that baby rats have no common sense or survival instincts whatsoever. Hence they will run below your behind just as you are about to sit down, so that you have a mere split second to realize that the small soft, fuzzy spot beneath you is not a comfy part of your blanket or cushions, or risk squishing your pet. Thankfully I did notice before putting real weight on him, and I move carefully when rats are outside anyway, so he didn't even squeak or interrupt his dash across my bed, and seemed no worse for the wear afterwards, but still-- you'd think a frelling rodent would notice things like a large shape coming down on it from above and be elsewhere instinctively. But apparently not. It's as if they have no idea that humans are larger and heavier than them, and don't have eyes on their backside. Argh.

On the bright side, my new rats aren't shy at all, and like to run on, over, around, and (unfortunately) under me when I take them outside.
