I think that's exactly what I just spent WAY too many words trying to explain. It's the balance that's important -- the sense that the author has done some introspection and is offering up a commentary that she thinks would be genuinely interesting to read ... as opposed to a laundry list of failures.
(And again, I'm not saying you've done this ... but so many people do.)
