I hate the damn things. I don't necessarily read subject lines, so I can spend quite a while trying to make sense of the piece of crap before realising it's yet another tedious bloody auto-post.
I have no idea,it's a new "feature" some kind of skript LJ offers to mix recent public posts and apparently the only way to see the gibberish produced is to post it, soo it may be curiosity, and apperently the skript produces an error but posts anyway, so people try it again and again. I have no idea whyt purpose it's supposed to serve, or why people don't at least delete the crap once they tried.
Right. I mean, I was curious about how they were randomizing, and I went to check it out ... and discovered that you couldn't look at it without posting! So I accidentally did, and then immediately deleted it.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who's getting cranky about the whole thing. I spent a few minutes last night trying to figure out a fic that someone seemed to have posted, wondering if she was trying a new format. Argh.
This is one of the most annoying "features" yet. It's like integrating the worst quiz spam in the site. Worse actually, since the "what desert topping are you?" posts make at least a small amount of sense.
I sure hope people will stop pushing the spam button soon. But meanwhile I have to go to skip back several pages for reading my flist and cherrypick entries to find stuff inbetween garbage, because it's full of auto-posts, sometimes five or more from a single poster because apparently they just have to keep pushing that button in all settings.
It's a shiny new toy. Everyone's going to play with it once and forget about it. Meanwhile the threads of features people have asked for and things that need to be fixed are several pages long.
What I wonder is exactly is "shiny" about a randomize-posts-and-repost-them-as-spam button?! It is a sucky feature, not even a shiny toy. I agree on the point that they do this crap, while a ton of useful features, like say a simple "AND" to combine tags like in most other services using tags, don't ever materialize.
I'm often amazed at the lame features LJ trots out for us, while we're still waiting, seven years on, for the promised "they're coming soon, really!" things like stats and referral logs.
At least the offsite toys doing this kind of thing offer a preview without the autopost, so people can play without inflicting this crap on others. I bet if there had been a "preview" step before the post 95% less automated spam would have cluttered my flist today.
I tried it on two of the settings, just out of curiosity. One was gibberish (looong gibberish), the other was an exact duplicate of an entry from about two weeks prior. I shrugged, deleted both entries, and posted something about magic instead.
It's fun to try once, but I definitely won't do it again.

Still, at least people are starting to cut them now.
