that SGA tie-in novel Exogenesis...

I've finished reading the SGA tie-in novel Exogenesis by Sonny Whitelaw and Elizabeth Christensen, and I mostly liked the action-adventure part, though I keep getting surprised by just how more creepy and morally corrupt the Ancients are in the tie-in novels even compared to the series where they are of somewhat dubious character to begin with. However the strong presence of emotionally damaged woobie!Rodney really wasn't my thing. Also, I continue to find the way the expedition treats the Athosians when the former once again triggered a disaster that affects everybody disturbing.

I think to a certain extent, that moral corruption on the part of the Ancients comes through on the show as well. It's part of why I love the series so much. The Ancients start out as this mystical super-powerful race who, if the Stargate teams can only find the Ancient city, might offer the SGC a way of defeating the Goa'uld once and for all. And then, as time goes by, the Ancients stop being this marvellously angellic race/deus ex machina, and become petty and human and maybe not so very evolved after all.

Yeah, sure, but IMO the novels have just more horrific experiments.

Hm...I don't have this one and the fandemonium website plot synopsis is kind of generic. Can you give me some spoilers?

They find some stasis pods with ancients on the ocean floor, they try to rescue two who are accessible, accidentally kill one, the other is really angry about that and possesses Carson to drop a terraforming device with nanites that will destroy the planet and spread through the galaxy turning everything into gray goo and start over. She thinks humans are presumptuous to explore the ancient tech and rather than have the Wraith threat persist and threaten the rest of the universe Pegasus should be wiped out and the genetic and evolutionary experiments that after all resulted in the Wraith in the first place, started over.

The team tries to find another terraforming device to undo stuff and goes to this planet where the Ancients had another a long term terraforming experiment going on. Summarizing that experiment would spoil the main plot twist rather severely.

Thanks. I think I'll be skipping that one. I mostly have the SG-1 tie-ins...just finished Siren's Song and now I'm rereading Roswell...and I've been wanting to pick up more of the Atlantis, but that one sounds a little iffy.

I liked the other tie-in these two have written better. That was called The Chosen.

Oh yeah, that one was like the episode The Tower, only a little more detailed in how the Ancient-descendants became the ruling class.

I also like the books that still have Ford in 'em. I miss Ford.
