Dave's Story, by tzzzz. Technically slash and het, John/OFC, John/OMC and John/Nancy, but Cofax would call it "Bob", I think. (ca. 8,700 words)
This story tells John's family history from the POV of his brother Dave, and I like it as further background to what we see in Outcast. It's neither melodramatic nor too angsty, but you can see the estrangement of the Sheppard's family happen like this without anyone being cast as the "bad guy".
