To read all the news about that swine flu panic, while you can hear through the walls how your downstairs neighbor is having a constant, horrible sounding cough, makes the news' atmosphere of impending plague and doom so much more real, even if you are nowhere near any current swine flu cases. I guess a fitting soundtrack always adds to the mood.

Yikes. It does add a certain level of emotional attachment to the news...

Yeah. Though I suspect medieval people would point and laugh at us seeing what level of contagious illness already causes this much uproar, even taking into account that modern societies are more vulnerable to disruptions. I mean as far as pandemics go even a bad flu is way better than any number of scary illnesses that have people bleeding from everywhere, or give you boils and what not, and then kill a lot of the sick, rather than just some.

Good point. Hopefully the next generations (or the next decade) won't point at laugh like that at us, too.

One of my work-mates (heavy smoker) has been coughing from even before this all kicked off on Sunday, but suddenly...it makes you a little uneasy.

Especially since she DOESN'T COVER HER MOUTH. I mean, ick.

Yeah, I suppose that now makes you see a mental version of these slow motion things they used in school to illustrate droplet infection...
