what is this with LJ lately?

If I'm not responding to something, that is likely because notifications are apparently currently broken on LJ, though earlier I was still getting some at least for comments albeit with much delay (I haven't gotten any tracking notifications recently, but of course now I don't know whether that is because the journals/tags don't have new posts or because they vanished into some virtual bermuda triangle). This follows their Scrapbook and userpic problems earlier. Not to mention that the site is timing out on me more than usual still, though that has gotten better today.

On the brighter side of their technical difficulties, their glitch of making the snowflake v-gifts free (apparently that wasn't an intentional holiday spirit thing and they also managed to fix *that* of all their glitches) led to snowflake flurries across my f-list, and I also got some (thanks anon and devildoll!). Those are nice.

Oh? Where did you hear the snowflake thing was a glitch? That's actually kind of funny, that so many people sent them. I mean, there's one guy whose friendslist sent 15,000 as a prank.....

It was a glitch? hahaha ... that's hilarious! I love what people did with it; seeing the flurry of snowflakes and thank-yous all over my flist was really awesome. :)

Yeah, at least I saw comments from someone from staff in this maintenance post who said so.

Hah, and I was actually kind of impressed by the sales tactic of making one free, because to send one you actually have to go to the holiday v-gift page and LOOK at all of the other ones. I mean, thanks to 1 snowflake being free, probably 1000x more people noticed the coal/Yule log/Happy Eid v-gifts than ever would have looked at the v-gift page before.

I thought so too, but someone from staff (I think it was Martha) explained in the comments of the maintenance post that it was a glitch, when some user complained that they didn't get their comment notifications but a ton of gift notifications for snowflakes, she talked about the situation. She also said that there might be properly free gifts in the future which would be announced. But this was not planned, apparently.

It would have been even funnier if their notification system had crashed because of the flurry of v-gift notifications, instead of being all wonky just because of their upgrades.
