I haven't drawn any Christmas cards this year, but it's been a month since I last posted photos of my rats looking adorable, so I thought I'd use them for cute and happy content. And that's what online journals are there for after all, inflicting photos of your pets on the world at large. :)
Unfortunately they refuse to hold still, and my digital camera is too crappy to shoot really fast. I have a bunch of photos with a rat nose pressed to the camera.
The grey (though you better not call it that with the breeders, lol, the official color name is "russian blue") is Noah, the brown is Leo, and the white with the brown head (actually the offically color name of that tone of brown is "mink") is Linus.
They are very curious. Unfortunately they explore with their teeth, and constantly try to get out of the rat safe areas (into my shelves, out of the room) also they pull up the carpet, tear on the wallpaper... so their curiosity is somewhat double edged.
They need their superpowered cuteness so that you forgive them when they somehow got into forbidden areas once again and chewed up your stuff...
Holding a hand out to examine (there might be food) or holding them down is pretty much the only way for me to get close ups without the rats trying to explore the camera. I don't have a good zoom, or a really fast camera that would get good shots of moving targets.
It's the hopeful look of "food? is there food somewhere on this hand?" designed to be so adorable that half the time you get some even if there wasn't.
They really are. I'm always in stitches when I some movie or tv ep includes some special effects rat that doesn't look at all like a rat because they wanted it to look menacing in a closeup rather than like a small, mostly fluffy rodent, vermin from the sewer or not. That really works much better with monster insect films, where the critters look freakier the closer you get.
They are very soft. while I currently don't have any that have especially soft fur (some fancy rat variants keep the kind of fine fur they have as babies into adulthood), their fur is as nice as that of fluffy indoor cats.

Remind me of their names again? Grey one, brown one and white with brown head.
