I just noticed a small lump on my rat Noah's back, the size of a small pea. He's so young still, not even a year, I hope it's not some kind of cancer already. I suppose it also could be an abscess, even though I didn't notice a bite and it doesn't seem to be tender to the touch. I guess I'll need to bring him to the vet for the first time tomorrow. Sigh. :(

I hope so too. It is in a place where he sometimes had small bites in the past from their scuffles, but I can't see a scab beneath the fur that would explain the bump directly (that was what I had first thought when I felt the raised area when I petted him). It's not that large, but I'd rather be too careful than to miss something that maybe could be helped better the earlier it's treated.

At least I have somewhat replenished the fund I always put aside in anticipation of vet costs for each rat after my last elderly rats died, who used up even more than what I had saved for them.
