why do I always miss these things?

So apparently there was (is?) some sort of kink meme kerfuffle going on in SGA fandom? I until today I didn't even know that SGA had any kink meme, and now there are two? Could someone link me to posts explaining what was going on?

It's just one kink meme, set up to alternate posting rounds between LJ and DW.

As I understand what went on, the mods may screen a prompt that isn't an actual kink under the meme's rules or screen and ask for it to be rephrased. There was a prompt in the first round with the kink 'chubby chaser'. The mods missed it, no one complained, but later when they were tagging, it got noticed.

One mod very much objected to it, others disliked but didn't feel like doing anything about it. It got screened with an explanation (while, yes, it is a kink, a re-phrasing would be appreciated since 'chubby chaser' has insulting connotations toward the kink itself and a kink meme is supposed to be kink friendly). At which point the anon trolls dogpiled the mod, who was overworked and less than thrilled at the treatment and decided to resign and let the others make whatever decision they chose on the matter.

Since then, of course, someone wrote a fill for the prompt and now there's a chubby chaser tag. (And I'm annoyed as hell.)

There are definitely two memes now. One on DW/LJ called sga_kinkmeme and one that cropped up in reaction called sgakinkmeme on LJ without the underscore.

Hm, the thread somone on LJ linked me where this happened some comments say that other prompts got screened too, and if that is the case I can see why starting a new meme seems like a better solution, if your prompts got rejected by mods in this one.

I'm not really much of a kink meme reader (I find navigating them inconvenient even with delicious), but this seems a higher level of moderation than usual for kink memes.

I'm not thrilled with labelling that kink "chubby chaser" either, but IMO just being more neutral in the official tagging part of the meme (like phrasing "body size" or whatever) would have been enough. I mean, you are bound to run far more problematic kinks in kink memes and with worse phrasing. To me that doesn't seem something the mods have much control over, how people describe their kinks, and the kink itself is rather on the harmless side and quite far from the kind of completely intolerable content that would have to be removed or cause outrage because of lines crossed or something.

I've been watching the meme since the beginning, even did a couple of fills, and read the rules because of that. It seemed clear enough to me that the meme would be modded in a stricter fashion than many are, because an effort was being made not to offend people.

Yes, prompts were screened. Some were screened because it's an sga meme and not a 6degrees meme, some prompts weren't kinks as defined in the rules, and some were asked to rephrase. I'm not sure why any of those things were problematic, other than that everyone feels free to act badly in an anon meme. I had a prompt screened for the current round. I didn't have a public hissy over it.

Of course there are more objectionable kinks. That's why the one in question wasn't noticed in the first place. There's a fill in the current round that turns my stomach, but it's for a prompt that is phrased according to the rules.

Obviously, some people weren't satisfied to play by the rules so they have done the logical thing and started their own kinkmeme. I won't be clicking it; I prefer the one where accepting kinks doesn't mean having to put up with anonymous shitheels.

Yeah...the reason I xpost both directions now that DW lets me is that I like to be able to read comments on both posts and assume others feel the same way.

Wow, that was objected to? on my mental list of "dodgy" kinks that rates really rather low, compared to say underage incest non-con with demon possession, or torture porn with slavery and mutilation or the like.

Probably. I stopped reading the comments after the third failure to understand that though it can be used hatefully, that is the commonly used name of the particular kink. And that...stopping someone from writing a heavyset character having sex with a fandom hottie because of *terminology* is fat-acceptance-fail in itself.

They'd probably have gotten complaints though, from people searching for the fic. Because like it or not, 'chubby-chaser' is the term most people use for that particular kink. Shrug, I'm not sure it's possible to run a kink-meme without offending somebody. Do have to give them some points for trying.
