You should not try to eat a sandwich during your rats' playtime. They have very definite ideas about sharing tasty food ("it's mine if you can't hold onto it or eat it faster"), and it is near impossible to get in a bite while shoving three greedy rats away from your cheese sandwich with the hand not holding it. I knew this of course, but somehow still felt like getting myself a sandwich. Well, I ended up sharing some of the cheese and eating the rest very quickly.

Awww heh, one of my fondest memories of my little rat, Peter, was his taking the ENTIRE piece of Texas Toast from my plate and hauling ass with it on the bed.

Kirby partook of my enchilada dinner, but then encounter the sauce of death and found it not to his liking. Can't say I blamed him.

He lives for Reeces Peeces though.
I have a whole bag dedicated to him as treats. Cheaper and more loved than yogurt drops or anything else in all of the pet store

My rats' favorite treat is actually good for them: I give them bits broken off from whole grain rice waffles. Even the organic ones are cheaper than the pet store stuff, and they are just popped grain, no sugar, fat or salt. And yet every rat I've known loved these. The only thing better are eggs.
