Hush is just awfully pretty. So I decided to spread its prettiness around via icon spam offerings.


All artwork in these icons is by Jim Lee (pencils), Scott Williams (inks), and Alex Sinclair (colors) and obviously the images are ©DC Comics.

Wow. Pretty. And evocative. I have *got* to read this, clearly. I'd take an icon but I think I want to know about the stories behind the pictures. :)

Even though it's nearing its end, I still don't know what I'll ultimately think of Hush as a story, but it is sure pretty, and I'm a sucker for art I like, so that goes a long way to mollify me. I mean I've bought comics for much "less" than consistently pretty interior art, like some just because I liked the artist doing the cover art, even if it wasn't the same artist doing the actual interior comic, and a few times I even thought the internal art sucked. Obviously it has to be a really good cover for that, or I have to be a major fan of the artist so that I'll buy anything s/he draws, but it happens (though Jim Lee isn't quite that far up my list). I guess it's like with people who say they'll read the grocery lists of some authors. I never do that with writers, i.e. reading characters, genres or fandoms I don't enjoy as such, but I'll do it for comics for some artists, regardless whether I like the writer, or know the characters (and sometimes even the language, I mean I do own a couple of comics I can't really read).

I know zip about what's going on, but I'm not going to let that stop me, because these are just too lovely. May I have the second to last one in the last row, the girl in glasses by the computer screen? (And a brief explanation of who she is? *g*)

Sure, I'm glad you like them. It's all yours. That is Oracle, also known as Barbara Gordon, the niece (and later adopted daughter) of James Gordon. She was the first Batgirl, but the Joker shot her, causing permanent spinal cord damage. She then became Oracle, brokering information to the superhero community. She has formidable computer skills, can practically get into any system and knows basically anything anywhere where a computer or a connected electronic device is near-by. She also has a law degree. Currently she's together with Nightwing/Dick Grayson. She can also kick serious ass (for example in the storyline when Nightwing was tortured by Shrike and she rescues him together with Black Canary), since her wheelchair has lots of gadgets and she also fights with escrima sticks. However mainly she works behind the scenes, and lets other do the physical aspect of the superhero business. If you want to know more, this is an excellent site.

Sure. I'm glad you like it. And yeah, the Lee/Williams art is stunning -- while I had some problems with the story in Hush, it totally worked as eye candy.

You're welcome, but most of the Batman 618 icons already have been claimed in the earlier comments (bat618_01 was claimed by slaanesh, bat618_02 by buggery, bat618_03 by asian_caucasian, bat618_04 by flambeau), so if you want to use those as bases, you'd have to check with their current owners, since only buggery said in the comment that sharing is no problem.
