Daredevil v3 #1

I haven't read whatever miniseries came inbetween Shadowland (which I found a letdown overall) and this, but it seems clear enough that they want to bring Daredevil back to the status quo, while maybe backing slightly away from the extreme Matt-whumping. Currently Daredevil is the only Marvel I still read, so I mostly hope for a solid, self-contained story. And you can't tell much from just the first issue of a new storyline, but it has promise at least.

I like how they are handling Matt's senses, and it seems Matt will be doing things related to his work as lawyer. And Waid's Matt voice overall works for me too.

The backup story I found mostly pointless, even though in general I like sense exploration and moments between Foggy and Matt, but whatever the emotional point between them was supposed to be didn't really come across to me. And sense-wise, I didn't understand at all what that thing with the music was. First Matt plays violin badly, then he suddenly acquires that ability in the time some train arrives? Just, what? If anyone could explain this bit to me, I'd be grateful. Also what's with the food policing? That was a bit bizarre, though Matt's harping of Foggy eating popcorn managed to induce a sudden popcorn craving for me, and caused me to make myself some, albeit in a pot, because I don't have a microwave.


Unrelated, I just have to gripe about the weather a bit. Admittedly it is far, far better than a heat wave, because even moderate heat will make me truly miserable, but I would not mind if the highs weren't quite *this* low. Seriously, 14°C with rain? Couldn't it be a sunny 22°C? *grump*

I remember a December day with 14°C. I've been bitching about the weather pretty much non-stop all week. I love the heat. This is... blecchhh. I already made plans to spend as much time as possible in the sauna tomorrow. I'll take my Harry Potter fic and my comic scripts and just hang out there, try to trick my body into believing it's summer.

I loathe temperatures warmer than the upper twenties, not to mention that with really high temperatures I always worry about my father more, so I'm not opposed to cool summers as such, but this goes too far. I mean, I'm considering to get my winter blanket out again, because I keep being too cold at night with just the thinner summer blanket, and that is just wrong for late July.

Oh yeah, I'm still sleeping with a second blanket, too. I even had the heating on once or twice this week because my room was freezing. Last week, I went to bed once not because I was tired but because I was cold. What the hell.

I didn't like the food policing either, even though it strikes me as entirely in character for Matt, who always thinks he knows what's best for Foggy when really, Foggy knows what's best for Foggy!

After reading the violin scene a few times, I think the idea is that he uses his enhanced senses of hearing and touch to work out how to make the violin sound good by the time the train noise dies down? I think the point was meant to be "Matt's senses are amazing" but I took it as "Matt is a ridiculous show-off".

The ridiculous show-off part is true. I think my problem is that I don't really see how his senses might enable him learning to play the violin that quickly. I mean, I can see how perfect pitch and sensitive touch and agility wouldn't hurt while learning an instrument, but I don't see how it could be minutes. Well, maybe he had mostly forgotten violin lessons as a kid at some point, that are coming back to him.

He can play the piano well, so if he already had the basics of violin I think he could do it (and I can see Jack Murdock organising violin lessons with someone in the neighbourhood because it's cultured!) As long as the "injuries from punching people" hadn't beaten out "dextrous fingers from reading and playing piano"!
