a Tumblr question

When a Tumblr post contains more than one picture, with certain numbers some of the images tend to be resized rather small with maybe only one image largish. And then when I click the images I just get an annoying slideshow that barely makes the images larger and actually makes large images *smaller*. Is there a way to click somewhere (or change a setting somewhere) that enables me to see the images at their proper size as they were uploaded? Or at least at the 500px width resize Tumblr does for single picture posts?

It is so annoying! I've been trying all sorts of things, like going to the post directly and such, but nothing works. My last hope is that I have overlooked something in Tumblr's less than intuitive interface. I mean, I have a hard time believing that on a site so built around blogging images actually seeing them would be handled so poorly. When I post more than one picture myself I still do it in single posts, just so that the images don't get made tiny.

In the LJ post someone explained to me that right clicking the individual picture to open it in a new tab (or in my linux it's a middle click) circumvents the stupid slideshow and shows you the actual pictures.

The basic functionality on Tumblr is often hidden like special easter egg extras in normal interfaces, when it is not missing entirely.

Sometimes the uploaded images are just small and is stretched out by the photoset setting, but mostly, yes, the slideshow forces a size on it that isn't accurate. I usually just right click on it and open it in a new tab, it opens up at its true size then.

aha! so right-clicking on the image. I had tried opening the entry in a new tab, but not the pictures.
