I finished my Yuletart piece!

With a little time to spare even. Now I'll just have to try digitally fiddling with the colors that the scanner half-ruined (as usual), and maybe see whether I can do something about the artifacts from my paper having warped. But I have a finished, scanned picture, that I'll be able to submit before the deadline.

First I'm going to make myself some dinner though.

ETA: Submitted, finally. And it it only took until just after 2 a.m. First my scanner decided to descend into capricious divadom (the scan I thought was okay at first glance had a vertical stripe artifact), which took a while to sort out (first I tried getting another scanner to work, then another scanning program), then I fiddled with the finally stripe free picture, and then I had to come up with a title and a summary and all that, when normally I don't do titles for my art. All of which somehow always takes much longer than you think. But now it's done.

Unfortunately once I looked closely at my scan, I noticed that my scanner decided to start producing a weird and ugly vertical stripe artifact. I rescanned and it remains. So my optimism was premature. D:

I'm now trying whether I can get the scanner in the the cheap multifunctional printer to work, which printing capabilities broke soon after its warranty expired, yet which I haven't thrown out in the years since.

It's always something. >:(

ETA: And it turns out the stupid other scanner won't work with linux. Argh. I bet in art exchanges the "my scanner doesn't work right" issue is like "the dog ate my homework" excuse... Thankfully another scanning utility with my regular scanner doesn't produce the odd stripe. *phew* So now after wasting some two hours or so, I can finally try to get back to the original color and warping issues.

Good lord, it's like a comedy of errors, only without the comedy.

Yeah. Scanners are finicky creatures in the best of circumstances, forever messing up your art. And then things go wrong. Transferring pictures from the physical into the digital sucks so much.

They truly are. And for some reason they don't seem to get much better either. Other consumer electronics improve, yet after that initial burst that made them affordable they got stuck, still distort color, still large ones are really expensive, still don't flatten slightly warped things well, still don't cope well with the light that comes from the side through cracks when you scan things like book pages... I mean, my current scanner is not any better than the first one I had bought, an I would have just kept with that one if the SCSI connection wasn't so uncommon now.
