I watched The Hobbit tonight...

...and I really enjoyed it.
I liked the way it was arranged and expanded a bit to tie the events of The Hobbit more into LOTR and the general going ons of Middle Earth, and that it gave room to Thorin as well as Bilbo. They could have made a shorter movie if they had left out more of the background of the wars of dwarves and orcs and the framing and what Saruman and the council were arguing about the Necromancer and such, and had kept strictly to The Hobbit but I appreciated that it was a take on the book from the later perspective of the LOTR events.

I only watched it in the 24fps version though, because the cinema that offered it non-dubbed didn't have that newfangled tech. And getting the original voices was more important. It was 3D though. I think I'm slowly getting used to that technology. It worked surprisingly well, even though I didn't have a center seat (the cinema was packed).

I saw it in 2-D (er, not sure if it was the faster frame speed or not, actually) and IMAX 3-D, too (yes, yes, to see the Star Trek trailer). 3-D added nothing except annoyance with the imperfections in the glasses and how my focus was forced to certain areas of the screen, mildly headache inducing.

But I really enjoyed the story, seeing Middle Earth, Gandalf, Bilbo, and Gollum. Looking forward to the next two installments. Too bad I have to wait years. Bah.
