Yeah, I liked the worldbuilding too. And it came through there that the monster attacks had severe impact as they would have, like that they had food rationing. And there were a range of reactions to the kaiju shown, from profiteering to religious, so it wasn't that everyone was heroic. To me the premise seemed like "how life would go while we have to cope on with monster rampages", and I enjoyed that, because I find that scenario more believable than one that just assumes things would all collapse in total chaos or suddenly become a complete dystopia.
