Pacific Rim

That was a lot of fun. Really loud in the theater, but I guess that works for giant mecha fighting giant monsters. I appreciated that it wasn't a grimdark world, despite all the massive destruction and apocalyptic setting, and that the heroes weren't cynical. And I liked the aesthetics and design of both the Kaiju and the Jaegers. I hope there'll be lots of Raleigh/Mako soon.

And of course as much of fandom I see the endless crossover possibilities. If I was any good at drawing mecha, I'd definitely design an Iron Man inspired Jaeger with Tony Stark linked to either Pepper or Steve...

(And I need to make some robot-related icon somehow -- the Borg one doesn't really fit here...)

Hmmm... it was a world that was didn't have a lot of prospects, but you're right, it wasn't grim-dark. People had hope, and were working on making things better, not revealing in how awful the world was.

I really had fun with, especially with all the world-building they managed to stuff into the background.

Yeah, I liked the worldbuilding too. And it came through there that the monster attacks had severe impact as they would have, like that they had food rationing. And there were a range of reactions to the kaiju shown, from profiteering to religious, so it wasn't that everyone was heroic. To me the premise seemed like "how life would go while we have to cope on with monster rampages", and I enjoyed that, because I find that scenario more believable than one that just assumes things would all collapse in total chaos or suddenly become a complete dystopia.
