...about how I spent my time recently that my major accomplishment has been to get to a 4096 tile (screen with the tile as my trophy *g*) in that addictive 2048 game. (You can play on after you won and I got to 2048 a few times now but to 4096 only once so far.)

You are probably just sane enough not to play it as much. Compared to the number of games my number of wins is small. The only strategy tip I can give is that trying to keep the highest value tiles in the baseline and avoid moving tiles around in all directions gives me the best success. I always seem to loose when I come into a position where I'm forced to move tiles up.

I'm playing the Hawkeye version every now and then and I'm not getting anywhere. It's so much harder without numbers.

Yeah, I can imagine. I took a look at that version when you linked it earlier, but it's much harder to keep in mind which combines up to what compared to the clearer number symbols you've known for a lifetime.

I beat that one! After like, two hours. I ended up memorizing the order.

Mobile version, which I play most doesn't let me keep playing after I get to 2048 on the normal game.

I've been playing the regular one on my tablet, but via the website.

I've started to memorize the order at least of the lowest six or so, but I just can't seem to keep my highest tile in the corner, which in the number version hasn't been a problem. Weird. (Though I played that strategy just once and it worked right away so possibly I was just lucky.)

It took a *lot* of games... (The game also works from cache so with my spotty internet access recently it replaced looking at rolling racoon gifs on Tumblr and such. Hopefully the addiction mitigates once my life is back to normal.)
