Henneth-Annun Story Archive will be shutting down

I just saw the announcement that HASA will close at the end of the year, because they don't have the time and resources to keep it current and secure enough to deal with attacks on it.

HASA has been my favorite Tolkien fanfic archive even though its interface is not the most user friendly. I hope authors will migrate their stuff, but inevitably some fanfic will be lost. :(

If you are/were in the fandom, maybe help spread the word?

Well, I guess I'll go through the archive and save my favorites which is kind of tedious, because HASA doesn't have a whole work display, and so you need to save chapters.

OH NOES! was pretty much my reaction too. There is a lot of fic that's just in that archive, and many inactive authors who might not notice. :(

To download stories from HASA, you might want to check out the program FanfictionDownloader. From one single link to a story, it grabs all its chapters and creates a epub/mobile/PDF. I've used the program myself to download stories to read in my e-reader and it works.

I was going to suggest the same. If it supports HASA, it'll be ideal for your purposes. I always use it on ffn.

Sadly the Linux version of the program doesn't seem to work on my system. It requires a newer version of the Qt widget toolkit than the one that comes with my Ubuntu version. I think I'd have to upgrade my whole operating system for it to run.
