AO3 question

In the AO3 bookmark system, if the story gets deleted, would comments in my bookmark stay? I'm considering whether I shouldn't start to copy title/author/fandom into the comment field, so I'd at least know what story vanished.

I get really annoyed at seeing deleted stories in my bookmarks (any bookmarks really, but especially my own) without even knowing what they were, and no way to reconstruct what's gone. Having to add a comment would be slightly inconvenient (in part I use the AO3 bookmarks because it's just one on site click when I can't be bothered to properly tag on my Pinboard) and it would look a bit redundant as long as the bookmark is intact, but it might be worth it to avoid potential future aggravation.

I wonder if it might almost be MORE annoying to know which story was there once it's gone. I hate having them disappear, too, but I also hate coming across dead links/descriptions of stories and vids that are no longer online and KNOWING this thing used to be here that was exactly what I wanted in this fandom and now it's gone, waaahhhh. At least dead bookmark links are just a mystery ...

But I rarely put anything in the comment field, so I don't know if it stays, I'm afraid. You could ask AO3 support, maybe?

Normally I never use the comment field either.

I'd prefer knowing, because if I know what vanished I can look whether I saved it. Also then you can ask on one of the storyfinder comms whether someone could mail you a copy and have a chance finding it again. The mystery just drives me crazy.

I'm almost certain they do; I know that bookmarker tags still show, so I'm thinking anything else you add will also stay. A few months ago I started adding title, author, and a short summary to all my bookmarks, for exactly this reason. (Because author tags disappear when a fic is deleted, I now try to "redundantly" tag for pairing/characters and characteristics, too.)

I'm only about four pages in, so it's a slow process, but I try to do a little at a time, and I'll get there eventually! (Great excuse to read a bunch of great fics again!)

Getting through the backlog would take me a long time. At least currently I only have about a thousand bookmarks on AO3 compared to 8000 on Pinboard.

Wow! I have... 555 AO3 bookmarks, I believe, which is a big enough backlog to be getting on with. :D

I've never used Pinboard, so I don't know how it works; does it also have a tagging system, and/or allow you to add summaries to things saved?

Pinboard is like Delicious before that jumped the shark, just a social bookmarking site (you have to pay though I got an account way back when it was just a one time payment, instead of yearly as it is now, still not too expensive iirc, though I think if you pay more it will also automatically archive all your bookmarks so you don't loose any content you bookmarked without having to save yourself). It has tags, and you can have summaries.

Not to be confused with Pinterest, that social network where people collecxt DIY projects, fashion iideas or home decor stuff and such.
