I really hope summer will get a bit drier as it goes on. However, I'd be happy if it stayed on the cool side, because anything above 25°C makes me miserable. Though actually according to a weather press notice I just read, it turns out the average June temperature has been almost two degrees above the long term average here, but I guess it didn't feel like it because it's been much wetter than usual (135l per sqm instead of 70l per sqm).

Anyway, I feel like indulging the time honored tradition of weather griping, so have a poll:

Yeah, that sucks. Certainly part of why I loathe heat here so much, because when it is hot here it is always humid, never a dry heat.

Not so surprising considering that it is a maritime climate, and it used to be all different kinds of wetlands (a river delta, rainy enough that the right areas become fens even without streams running through and some bogs too) before humans wrecked the ecosystems to make it habitable for us with dikes and drainage, so only tiny, now protected remnants remain. But the weather will still feel swampy. (I mean, I kind of feel bad for all the birds and such, only not really, because I would not like living in some malaria infested swamp.)

We're hitting like 36c most days this month. We had the longest spring, and then summer hit like a hammer.

Urgh, 36°C would be horrible here -- nobody has A/C, because the average highs for July and August are just 22°. I mean occasionally you can get over 30° (and the record ever was 37° once) but that will get you heat warnings here.

I am that rare German who likes hot summers (except for when it doesn't cool off at night at all), and I am thoroughly disappointed so far this year...

The temperature is fine with me, but the rain needs to cut out. It's not like it is very dry here normally, but twice as much rain as usual as we had in June here is just ridiculously wet. Also with all the thunderstorms we also had a tornado that formed, which was just new levels of "WTF, weather?" since it's not as if those are common here. It did millions of damage.

Unfortunately my local forecast for the first half of July predicts it to be wet and on the cool side as well, so it looks both our hopes may be dashed for now. :/

(Also, even though it's always hot here, the humidity's been TERRIBLE these last couple days in particular.)

Well, I considered including an option for "seasons are different here" or something along those lines for regions where you have a wet/dry season or such, rather than the spring/summer/autumn/winter division, but ultimately felt that for the purpose of this poll that would be covered by either "it's not summer", "summer is great" or "summer is failing in some other way" depending on how someone feels about their current warm weather or its absence. Like in your case that probably falls under "summer is failing in some other way".

Yeah, I read something like this and I call bullshit. Maybe it applies for Germany overall... east and south have been pretty hot at times. But in the north west, no way is this above average. Most days we're not even hitting 20°. Maybe that's normal in recent years, but not long term, not for June.

According to the Deutscher Wetterdienst press release the average for Hamburg in June was 17,6°C while the long term June average is only 15,7°C. June is often still fairly cool at times (like "Schafskälte" periods). Actually the reference period from 1961-1990, compared to the more recent and warmer reference period from 1980-2010 it was only about one degree warmer according to their press release. I think it just felt colder because of all the rain, so there were less sunshine hours than average and it didn't get noticeably warm towards the end of June.

It's been warmer than usual here - and it already felt like July weather in May o_0 - and since June, also much wetter (which at least until now hasn't been too bad, because we got very little snow in the winter and too little rain in spring and everyhting needed water) - but it hasn't been too terribly long hot spells IMo (not like I recall from I think it was 2011). People arte starting to complain about the rain about nowish, when it started again after a week of sunny and warm, though I think the warmer-than average and longer-than-average would apply to our summer right now. The rain has been abundant when it comes though, so it might become a problem at some time. I don't like too hot (and fortunately I now have a heating pump which also can cool in summer, yay), mostly as I'm at work rain does not bother me either, so for me it has been a decent summer so far (as I can change clothes after biking to work through the rain :)).

I have less luck avoiding rain. But I'm quite pleased with the temperatures so far. Here we had some days with temperatures in the high twenties but nothing worse, and the cooler ones weren't so cold that it was unpleasant and in need of multiple clothing layers for warmth. Like looking at my past weather griping in this blog June 2013 was much colder. Which is still better than too much heat, like early July this time ten years ago was horrible (thanks to this journal I now have a long term personal weather griping record, lol).
