In that recent meme round where people listed LJ communities I came across a link to alien_desires a community to point out stories with alien sex, in which Clark's sexuality is different. Now that isn't one of my particular kinks, so I have never specifically looked for stories like that before. I was browsing around that community, following some links, and reading AlienSex!Clark, but most of the stories were surprisingly little SF-like. I mean, surely there are more ways you can make Clark alien than giving him a mating urge? (Or, occasionally, a self-lubricating ass.)

I didn't read all the stories that were linked, but somehow that seemed very prevalent. Don't get me wrong, when handled well, that plot-device can be hot, or even lead to interesting, or funny, character interaction, but I kind of had expected more variety. I don't know whether I expected tentacles or what, but somehow I'm disillusioned.

You mean you did not read the one with the prehencile penis. *Shudder* Though I seem to remember a cute story where Clark starts to glow when he gets sexually aroused.

Oh yes, I vaguely remember the prehensile penis one. Though iirc I actually didn't think it was all that bad. I mean, okay, the penis thing wasn't my kink, but I'm not squicked by tentacle sex et al either.

I guess I'm not easily traumatized. I have few definite squicks, one is sex with prepubescent children, the second related one is when there isn't sex, but some sort of "bonding" or whatever going on with prepubescent children that is supposed to turn into a sexual relationship later, at least when that bonding is handled as if it was something romantic and not disturbing, like I've come across TPM fiction with a two year old Obi-Wan that didn't have sex but still made me feel icky, though it was clear that this was supposed to be all fated and romantic, and the third definite squick I have isn't sexual but makes me skim more stuff than any other, and that is characters in embarrassing situations/conversations. Other than that I can't really think of any bulletproof squick I have, at least none that good writing couldn't overcome. (I mean, I'm squicked by most permanent-brain-injury-fic, actually most permanent disability and terminal illness fic, but not by all.) Well maybe sex scenes with people/characters I find icky, I don't know, Michael Jackson slash or something, I don't think good writig could help there... but then that's a really bad mental place. *shudders*

To my mind the "prehensile penis story" is a *better* exploration of Alien!Clark than the "golden glow story" exactly because the former freaked you (and a lot of other people) out, while the latter is mostly cute and beautiful. Sex with an alien *should* be a freak-out, it should be deeply disturbing and different. "Good Questions" has an especially nice turn because Lex himself has had genital body mods, emphasizing that not all humans are alike in this regard, either.

The notion of the self-lubricating ass just makes me giggle -- I can't imagine finding such a story sexy.

Then again, every time I say something like that ("I'd never like a story in which...") somebody really smart comes along and writes one that I enjoy, so I'm wary of making grand pronouncements like that anymore.

Well, to be fair, in the ones I've read it wasn't like the center of the story or anything, making Kryptonians have an easier time with anal sex seemed more a way to skip the often somewhat tedious standard penetration preparation scene.

I could have told you that alien sex Clark stories in SV are always excuses for bizarro slash with strange mating urges and all sorts of self-lubricating bits. Would have saved you the time.

I remember reading a couple of stories that I didn't specifically sought out as alien sex Clark, in which Clark was different nonetheless, and they were quite good. I guess the good fic/ bad fic ratio is about the same as in any other genre. What surprised me wasn't writing quality but that there seemed to be relatively little diversity in the ways in which Clark is alien. I mean, one of the mating urge stories had his primary erogenous zone in the throat-mouth area, for example, which was a nice variety, but still not all that alien. Considering how different Krypromutants bodies can function in the SV universe, even when they appear human (like the one that could split himself into two people, shapeshifters etc) writers could do all sorts of wacky/funny/interesting things. Heck if you wanted to you could go the way of Farscape with Zhan and make Clark a plant (I mean his powers are related to sunlight after all) and have him budding, or give him photo-orgasms or whatever.
