Batman Adventure icons
I've made some Batman and Nightwing icons of the animated characters, from Batman Adventures #12. (BTW, that I bought that comic in the first place is entirely
lcsbanana's fault.) As usual, please comment if you take an icon, unless people say they're okay with sharing, the icon belongs to whoever claims it first, and feel free to modify them any way you want.

I have to disclaim that this is the first Batman Adventures issue I've read, and while the story is kind of self-contained, there seems to be some ongoing story. Anyway...
The main story, "The Duo Dynamic", goes like this: We're in Blüdhaven, the ex-mayor of Gotham, Hamilton Hill, moved there after the Penguin, or rather Oswald Cobblepot, defeated him in the election a year ago. It's night, but he suffers from insomnia, and there's someone at his door. He opens (and why anybody in either Gotham or Blüdhaven would open the door at night when they don't expect anybody mystifies me, but whatever) and at his door is the Riddler with a knife in his back. The Riddler has trouble speaking, but says "Hill.." then collapses into Hills arms, and drops a piece of paper, which turns out to be a train ticket to Gotham. He gets out a couple of more words: "Down... there." "Sssller..." (which Hill understands as "cellar") and "Nnng. Time. Flies." Hill calls an ambulance.
They (presumably the paramedics) get Riddler stabilized, and transport him to hospital, but he's unconscious, so the police, actually a Captain Garett, questions Hill about what the Riddler said. Hill wonders why the Riddler would come to him. Garrett tells Hill that the Riddler staggered around for a while with the knife in his back and several people saw that, but nobody saw the attack (makes you wonder about the Blüdhaven citizens that nobody called an ambulance when they see a guy staggering around with a knife in his back), during this Riddler also smashed the window of a jeweler across the street from Hill. The train ticket was bought three days ago at "Simon's Tickets". As Garrett tells Hill all this Nightwing comes in through a window, and says that it looks like the Riddler was stalking Hill. Nightwing is recognized by Garrett and the uniformed officers, he shakes hands with Garret, clearly is on friendly terms with the police. He's there because Garrett sent him a message, also calls him "lad" ("I see you got my message, lad. We could use you on this one." "I'm always here for Blüdhaven P.D., Captain Garrett." -- obviously the animated P.D. is less corrupt than its comic pendant).
Nightwing want to know the exact words Riddler used, because language is highly important to the Riddler. Hill repeats what he heard. As Nightwing comes outside, he's interviewed by the press, well it's actually more like they shout questions at him, and he says his statement. (They: "Is Nygma dead?!? Who gets his millions?" "Where is Batman?" "Any leads Nightwing?" He: "Actually, Janice, we have a strong lead. And I'm fairly confident we'll catch whoever did this. But if your viewers have any information about tonights attack, we'd appreciate their coming forward.") Very slick and confident with the media.
Next page we see that the guy from Simon Travel sees this on tv, Nightwing knocks as his door. Nicholas Simon is surprised to see Nightwing because he just was tv, but Nightwing says it was taped. Simon asks for Nightwings autograph, which Nightwing gives, then asks him about the ticket he sold. Simon says he sold the ticket to Mr. Nygma on Thursday, the train leaves tomorrow at ten, and Nygma paid in cash, didn't say anymore and was a new customer. Nightwing hears something, shushes Simon (what you see in icon #2) and tackles the shadow, who turns out to be Batman. Meanwhile Simon is worried about his furniture ("Oh dear... What are you...? Mr. Nightwing...? Please try not to rearrange anything in there!")
(more in a later comment, cause this is getting too long)

*need... more... COMICS...*

Outside Nightwing is exasperated with Batman, and they kind of argue:
NW: You should have let me handle that. If he had any information to add to this case, you just scared him off...
(Nightwing is still walking up to Batman who has his back turned to him, for the next bit Batman turns his head to Nightwing)
BM: The fact that I scared him so quickly is information.
NW: Hey, this isn't Gotham City. People aren't used to you in Blüdhaven!
(Next bit Batman has his Back to Nightwing *again*)
BM: They seem quite used to Nightwing. How often do you go on the television?
NW: Oh, so you don't approve?
(Nightwing throws up his arms here, and for the next bit Batman has turned but so has Nightwing, so that now Batman is talking to Nightwing's back, Nightwing also kind of handles his grapple already)
BM: I don't know yet. You didn't answer me. Do you do it a lot?
NW: I have a different style than you, Bruce. It's why I moved to Blüdhaven.
(he shoots his grapple, but faces Batman)
NW: I'm not your junior partner anymore. I do things my way. And I'd rather help the citizens than scare them half to death.
(he's already in the air when he says the next bit)
NW: If you want in on this case in my city...? That's how we do things.
Next they interview the jeweler, Starvos. We get Starvos' testimony in a flashback. He says he's just a jeweler, that the riddler broke his window and grabbed jewlery, but that he pushed him back, that the Riddler then called him "clueless" and shot at him with his cane, but that only smoke and a clicking sound came out, and then he sees blood on his hand, and the Riddler moved away. That he washed his hands before he called the police, because people were staring at him, and he's been an American citizen for only five years, and that he doesn't tell the police, but trusts Nightwing, because he was on the tv news. Batman asks if there's a cellar, but there isn't. The jewler gives Nightwing a gift: "Now come. I give you music box to give to your girlfriend, Catwoman..." NW: "What?" (he's somewhat flustered) "I read about you and her in People's Inquirer. Look, a kitten inside..." "We're not...No, I couldn't..." and he and Batman leave.

continued
BM: That's what you get for being a famous crimefighter, Dick.
NW: Starvos was trying to distract meand give me a good reason to ignore anything we hear about blood on his hands.
BM: We ignore nothing.
They continue to talk about the case, about what to do next, whether to split up to interview the other six key witnesses from a list Garret gave Dick. Batman says either that or to search through every basement, to which Dick says that would stretch out the investigation "ad infinitum" which is when Batman makes the latin connection, that Riddler said "time flies"="tempus fugit" which is close to "Temple Fugit" the Clock King's real name. Batman also suggests that Riddler said "seller" not "cellar" poiinting to the man who sold him the ticket, i.e. Nicholas Simon.
When they arrive there, Simon is packing up, and talking to himself, saying that it was a prime location to witness Hill's exile and humiliation. Batman confronts him:
BM: Fugit...
S: What?!?
BM: Riddler's quiz cane fires only two bullets. You snuck up on Nygma from behind and he fires wild--into your wall--after you stabbed him.
S: He came in to get a refund on the ticket he bought on Thursday, and I found him breaking into my comuter files when I stepped out of the room! It was noen of his business!
BM: Did he find out you were working for the penguin?
S: Hahaha! (throws some kind of explosive and flees)
At that point Batman is on the floor holding his head, Nightwing comes running in (you can see this in icons #8 and #9) and the Clock King say "The Penguin?!? You boys haven't got a clue." as he disables Nightwing with some kind of gas from hist watch.
He flees a Channel for traffic helicopter spots this and films. Nightwing and Batman come out of the building.
BM: he threw that bomb exactly where he'd feel none of the blast. I'd forgotten how precise clock King can be.
NW: Koff...koff...where did you park the car?
BM: A hundred feet south.
NW: I'm driving.
BM: We don't have time for you to--
NW: I know my way around Blüdhaven, Batman, and you don't.
NW: Hey, I like the new upholstery! (that's icon #10)
BM: Just drive.
They catch up with Clock King, who jumps out of his car (which crashes destroying the evidence on his computer as the Clock King tauntingly elaborates as it's the supervillain's wont) onto a train ("The 1:05 to Star City is never late, Batman."), all while the helicopter crew is filming, delighted to spot the Batmobile in Blüdhaven, because that's worth going live.
Nightwing tries to tell Batman that he doesn't have to jump onto the train (because Nightwing is friendly with the tv helicopter crew, and they'd allow to put a grapple there so they could swing over), but Batman of course doesn't let Nightwing finish the sentence, jumps onto that train, barely makes it, the bad guy stomps onto his hands a couple of times, meanwhile Nightwing gets there (see #13), kicking Clock King with his feet as he swings in, Clock King falls backwards, Nightwing then helps Batman up, which is what you see in #12, however as soon as he has a better grip on the train Batman pushes Nightwing aside to shoot his graple to catch Clock King's foot who was falling off the train.
BM: Not so fast Clock King.
NW: Looks like Mr. "Simon" got caught in the "Nick" of time.
BM: You still haven't gotten over the puns?
NW: Oh, shush, you love it.
Final scene is in the hospital in front of Riddler's room. Garrett is there, and thanks Nightwing (and "your friend there") in the name of the Blüdhaven police, and tells them that even if the Riddler comes out of it, he'll have some memory loss or brain damage because he lost too much blood. Fugit got a lawyer and hasn't told them why he stabbed him.
BM: Nygma was working for me.
NW: So you said...since when do you partner with your enemies)
BM: I have a different style than you, Nightwing.
In the end Batman says that he thinks the Clock King fixed the Gotham elections for Penguin to win to humiliate Hill whom he hated, and that the Riddler found out. Nightwing asks how, Batman says that he doesn't know yet, but he will.

Robin: Can we keep it?
Batman: No.
R: C'mon. It'd be great. We could keep it in the cave and...
BM:I said no. Transporting something that large would risk undue attention. To the Batmobile. Now.
R: But--
BM: We'll talk about it at home. (Dick is looking back wistfully to the dinosaur.)
Back at the manor Dick kind of sulks. Alfred intervenes (Dick has been sent to bed, but listens in hanging upside down next to the door.)
Alfred: While cleaning Master Dick's room I noticed that all of his circus posters had been removed.
Bruce: Yes, Alfred. When he decided to become Robin...we agreed it would be best not to remind people that Bruce Wayne's ward was a trained acrobat.
A: Understandable. But still a large sacrifice...
B: No more than I made when I was Dick's age.
A: I remember, in order to maintain your "secret life," you never kept any trophies. Never let others know of your achievements. But Master Dick is different, Sir. He grew up in the spotlight of the center ring. He's not you, Sir. He needs to shine. And maybe.. If he can no longer share his accomplishments with the world...maybe it would be enough if he shared them with us.
So when he comes down to the cave the robot dinosaur is there though Batman doesn't talk about it, just comments that Dick is late, and proceeds the training. Dick as narrator tells "We always referred to that part of the cave as the trophy room. But the truth of it was--it was my trophy room." then we see Dick leaving for Blüdhaven, Alfred, Tim and Barbara are there to say goodbye.
Alfred: Are you sure about this, Master Dick? Blüdhaven?
Dick: I think Gotham's in safe hands. We're practically tripping over each other here as it is. It's time I found my own place and got out of under Bruce's shadow. Speaking of which--
Alfred:I'm sure he wishes he could be here, but--
Dick: Someone has to watch over the city, right?
Alfred: I knew you would understand. Take care, my boy.
We still see Dick looking rather sad or disappinted once he's inside the bus, though. So his first night in Blüdhaven he ties up Killer Moth and takes the cocoon-gun as a trophy (about which Killer Moth complains "Hey! Where are you going with that? That gun cost me two grand to build! Stop! Thief!"), comes home and finds the dinosaur at his new headquaters with a note from Batman "This will get you started."
I hope now you're sufficiently informed about Batman Adventures #12. *grin*

BTW, have you read Batman Chronicles #8? That one has a robot dinosaur as trophy story for the main comicverse, which doesn't have Dick in it, but Alfred gets the dinosaur at a police auction (disguised and under an alias of course) for Bruce as a gift to remind him that he makes a difference, because after fighting it (well the dinosaur, then robotic cavemen and some flying dinosaur, and finally the guy who made them) Batman was all gloomy and tortured.

Batman can count himself lucky Dick if Dick didn't want it fixed so it could move again... I mean, I can totally see that conversation: "Can we fix it?" "No." "Please, it'd be great--" "I said no. It's too dangerous. There is sensitive equipment in the cave." "C'mon. I'd be really careful, I promise." "No." ...
