name smooshes: endlessly amusing, also less than clear for threesomes

I have just seen a Kirk/Spock/McCoy fic tagged as "Mckick". Granted, on the story itself rather than the journal's tags it was written out, so don't know whether this was just for tag brevity or is really used as pairing name proper somewhere, but even with knowing the pairing it took me a bit to decipher what this tag on the post meant. Smooshes just get the more confusing the more people are involved.

I don't know, especially since the smooshes I've seen for Kirk/Spock were Kock, Spirk, and (jokingly) Spork, rather than Kick, so that is counter-intuitive from that angle as well.

(I still maintain that Spork is the best pairing smush-name ever. Though pretty much anything involving Snape usually gives me a giggle as well.)

Yeah the Snape pairing smooshes all sound somewhat weird to me. It took me quite some time to even get used to the ubiquitous "Snarry" (and not just on the fiction story side, though that too *LOL*), but I'm not sure whether that isn't because "Sn" at the beginning of a word is not a regular consonant cluster in German, it only occurs in words taken directly from English. Normally you'd always default to "Schn" i.e. a "sh" sound instead of a "S" if you want an N to follow.

(oh god, I typed "Schnupid" at first by accident, though I swear that's not a commentary on the pairing, just my fingers assuming what word I'm going for without consulting my brain.)

Though wrt the Klingon-ness, aren't most Klingon names really short, i.e. one or two syllables? Worf, Krell, Kahless, Kang, Gowron, Durras, Korrd...

That's hilarious. I liked the concept of smooshnames until I realized how impossible it would be to devise a system of smooshnames for pairings that were consistent, unambiguous, and pronounceable -- let alone names for threesomes.

I'm not anti-smoosh on principle, but they often sound quite unfortunate. To my ears this is especially noticable in most Snape pairings. I mean, "Snermione" does not sound pleasant, nor does "Snapledore".
