the latest Friday Night Lights
I feel really bad for so many of them this season.
And sometimes I want thwap them on the head. Like Tyra and Landry, to remind them that the first step to have your manslaughter that you chose to cover up (even though was likely justifiable as self-defense) remain undiscovered is to not talk about it in public places. Though it was kind of adorable to have Tyra realize that Landry is actually decent boyfriend material when she defended him and expounded on his good points to Landry's father. (Who btw seems to suck, or maybe he just had someone really different from Landry in mind as his "ideal" son or something, but still--) Anyway, I'm still rooting for them.
And Herc is so right in his view of Jason's hopes for a miracle surgery, yet I look forward to Jason and Tim on their roadtrip. Though I'm starting to wonder where Jason's parents are in all of this right now. I mean, maybe they are overwhelmed or something, but they seem very absent and of no help to him.
That church Lyla attended was really weird for me. The people creeped me out, and that the church itself had a giant tv screen and looked like some sort of tacky convention center rather than a church was odd too. I mean I've heard about such stuff from US churches, but mostly fictional US churches on tv or in comics at least are more familiar in that they are in buildings that are arranged like traditional sacral spaces. Unless I have selective memory? Which is possible. Also, that Tim pretends to have found god to get back together with his ex is, well, kind of pathetic. It's no wonder that attempt fell flat on its face.
And Julie, gah. I really felt for her being sober while her friends are already stoned. That is one of the least fun situations you can be in with friends (that aren't some outright disaster, I mean). I'm not ideologically an abstinence person or think pot is all that bad for anyone as far as drugs go, but I myself never get stoned even when company is and never have, because a) I can't stand smell of marijuana, so it's hard enough to be nearby already without smoking any, and b) I just don't trust myself that I'm cut out to be a responsible drug user even without any strong physical addictive properties (it's the reason why I avoid even just social drinking too), so I've been in that situation a lot where everybody has a good time and is terribly amused, and you're offered some, decline and are inevitably a spoil sport and your own evening just gets worse. It just sucks.
Julie right now is obnoxious -- and I don't mean the inevitable teenage drama with her breakup and such, but mostly things like how she calls her sister "your baby" rather than "Gracie" when she talks to her mother. But she's obnoxious in a believable way, so I still like her, but she makes it hard.
