WTF?

This content rating is annoying as frell (notice my usage of the kiddie-safe expletive... *snerk*). Half my f-list is now collapsed into non-specific cut-tags telling me "You are about to view content that may not be appropriate for minors."?? Presumably this is because I joined back when you just had to tell them that you were over 13. You know, since I said I was over 13 more than five years ago, it would have been cool if their computer system leniently deduced that I'm probably well over 18 by now. Kind of a gesture of goodwill towards longterm users who joined under a very different atmosphere and management. But I guess I'm now forced to change my settings somewhere, and give them my data...

Turns out there's a setting on your profile that is automatically set to "moderate" filtering. If you go to your profile and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, you can change it to no filtering.

I wouldn't have known this if kayjayuu hadn't pointed it out!

Yeah, I knew that, but these options are greyed out if you haven't entered a birthdate. I had to give them my data before they'd let me set the filtering options.

Yeah. I guess it would have been too much to ask that they assume as default that someone who signed up more than five years ago as "over 13" would now be an adult rather than under 14, which seems their default. Why they assume that their users are children as their standard setting I don't know. They just make their service suckier by the month it seems.

You know, the interesting thing about all this is that they say it depends on your *original* birthdate, and I know I gave them a birth year when I joined (it was less than five years ago, but I was more than 18 then), but it still doesn't let me change that setting unless I have a birth year in my profile. And when I added one and *then* removed it, I got switched to the cut tags again.

I haven't tried saying I was a minor and then seeing what happens; I'm afraid of the results.

That's odd. So the whole thing is buggy as well? That makes it even more annoying.
