I'm sure there must be a LibraryThing for music collections somewhere, so that you can tag your music to search for stuff, browse your friends' music tastes, rec things, and all that social network stuff. Especially considering that somehow exporting music collection lists from media players has to be easier than to input books. But somehow I haven't seen people link to anything like that for sharing lists of their music collections online yet. So where is that site, or which is most popular if there are several?

Maybe Last.fm has sort of that function?

Huh, I never really checked that site out, because for some reason I thought it was just some sort of online radio station site, and also the time I tried the player somehow didn't work for me, iirc, but you're right, it does have social networking functions too. Thanks.

Hi there! Pandora.com has customizable genre playlists that one can share with others. Also, on yahoo launchcast one can recommend specific artists, albums, and songs. I'm just trying it out myself. Find me if you want - I'm bluecimmers.

unfortunately pandora.com isn't available outside the US. It recognizes my IP as from Germany and won't let me use the site. :(

But thanks for pointing out the yahoo thing, I'll take a look.

And the Yahoo Launchcast only works on Windows with IE, not on Linux (from their FAQ "Yahoo! LAUNCHcast is not currently compatible with Macintosh OS or with the Firefox browser.") :(

Phooey. I'm surprised about pandora's limitations - hope they work out the rights issues soon. Not surprised about yahoo, however. They are, after all, in cahoots with evil!Gates. :P

At first you could use pandora at least in a demo mode, though they only allowed signing up with a US location, but then they implemented the ip checking quite a while ago. I don't think the licensing problems are a short term thing. The music industry just sucks a lot.
