some comments on SGA 5x16

Well, a Rodney-centric episode nearly without Sheppard and Ronon, and entirely without Teyla wasn't going to be one of my favorites, but overall it was still fun to watch. I know that Rodney/Keller isn't really popular in large segments of the fandom, but whatever, I liked them here.

In the opening seeing, as usual, the proliferation of superfluous plastic packaging in their mess hall drove me crazy. But ignoring that WTF? aspect, John was adorkable with Ronon, as he eyed Rodney trying to ask Keller to accompany him. He and Ronon can commiserate together. (Surely someone is going to write that John/Ronon story?)

And while my first thought about Roney's and Jennifer's conversation was "haven't I read that before?" because it is such a common fanfic trope -- both Rodney's misery with the lack of publishing and the plot of bringing a date to a conference on earth as status symbol, I liked that Rodney was awkward without it triggering my embarrassment squick.

I enjoyed it a lot actually, and have been a tad frustrated by the negativity on my flist...

Yeah, me too. I mean, I mostly skipped all posts that seemed to dislike it and read the few positive reactions, but still.

I actually made a post and then just posted it to private.

Because I liked Heaven and Hell too. And I just want to enjoy my shows at the moment, so my flist is sometimes not a good place... :(

Aw, why? Others, like me, want to see squeeful posts. Most posts I've seen about Heaven and Hell liked that overall. Though admittedly the people who enjoy the current Ruby actress are in the minority, but we have a support group. ;) But I generally select my show review reading towards pro-squee and against hardcore OTP people, and in my experience that helps quite a bit to cut down the negativity on eps I liked from my reading.

Sometimes I'm really glad that I'm not the OTP-type of fan, and rarely dislike characters either. That just makes it easier to like variety of episodes (and to find decent fanfic).

Or maybe I'm just easy to please. I mean, the ep had decent "race against time" plot with technobabble, we got to see how Jennifer handles Rodney being his obnoxious self (though less obnoxious in contrast I guess, and he remembered to mention Jeannie at least), and some cute, slightly awkward geek romance, so I was happy enough with it overall, even though my favorite character was mostly absent.
