At first I thought it was just Gmail that had trouble loading for me, but their search engine is timing out on me as well. And I seem not alone. I actually found twitter useful for just about the first time and searched there for Gmail and Google complaints happening right now, and it seems I'm not alone with this problem.

It is kind of appalling how much I've come to rely on Google being there.

Yeah. I mean, I use Gmail "only" for my fannish emails and comment notifications and such, but that's most of the email I get.

Definitely not just you. Looking at the twitter trend "gmail" was the third most popular thingin their trends, and that on top of "#googlefail" being also in the top ten.

I didn't notice anything, but I was offline for a few hours. It's loading fine now. I think I read something in the paper about Google planning to update their search engine with some new, shiny features so maybe that's what's causing the hiccups.

Yeah, it was only down an hour so for me and a bit slow before that, which however seems much longer when you want to use a webservice just then. *g*

I don't think it was intentional. They eventually updated their twitter saying that they had issues and would share more info soon:

Yeah, Google is screwed up. My Google reader hasn't been working for about an hour now.

It seems all their services have problems. I can't reach Blogspot or youtube either. (eta: Though youtube finally loaded after taking ages, so maybe things are improving...)

When Google has trouble they take a serious chunk of all internet services with them. I mean, I can reach their search or mail or news, but also not blogspot, and youtube took ages when I tried, though it loaded eventually.
