The Listener fanfic?

I've recently watched The Listener, and quite liked it. So naturally I'm now wondering whether there is any fanfic to be found for it. I've tried del.icio.us with various likely tags without success, asked google, looked on ff.net... and nothing turns up. Not a single story anywhere. An interest search on LJ yielded a single community the_listener_tv (no comms on DW or IJ), but the only fanfic posted were two very short comment ficlets.

I just can't believe nobody has written anything for it. It has a main hero Toby who is pretty, angsty (with some past trauma), orphaned and a telepath, and can be easily shipped with both his on-and-off again girlfriend Olivia, but just as well slashed with his paramedic partner Oz thanks to Toby and both Olivia both being somewhat waffling about their relationship, or paired with any number of other people. The whole series is like a fanfic blueprint what with the mix of mild supernatural SF elements, crime/medical drama, tragic mystery past and relationship options. And yet, thirteen episodes of this and I can find no fanfic anywhere? How can that be?

I suspect that it's just not widely-enough known, yet; if you're not Canadian, you need to have had it pointed out to you, and download it. You wouldn't think that this would be a barrier these days, but unless it gets talked up... And then there are the people like me who've had it dloaded for quite a while, but haven't gotten around to watching it; I think it's just not hit a critical mass yet?

It's due to air in the US this fall ETA: It's starting June 4th!, so maybe more people will catch it then? Not to be US-centric...

Yeah, I hope more people will watch an like it when it starts in the US. It's really quite good, IMO. I wasn't aware that it hasn't started there yet, because everywhere else (like not just Canada but also Europe and South America) it started in March and I thought they'd synchronized it like they do with some movies now perhaps to discourage the time-delay downloading.

I don't think it's aired in the US yet...that could be part of it.

Really? I thought it had some sort of global synchronized start or something in March? So they aired it in Europe, South America and Canada before the US? How odd.

On the bright side that means the fandom could still get much livelier!

I like the Listener. I have the urge to write a sga/listener xo, where Toby is Patrick Sheppard's illegitimate son. John Sheppard goes to Toronto with Rodney to a science conference. There's a mishap at the con (heart attack or something). The paramedics respond to the call. And John can hear Toby instinctively trying to cajole the heart attack victim. In the main, Toby's abilities seem pretty passive; he listens rather than projects. John's really locked down (there's a surprise) but suddenly there's a telepath in the vicinity projecting to whom he's related.

And then I kind of stall... It all relates to the ATA gene of course.

Huh, had never heard of it, but Wiki has it starting in the US in June, so I will keep an eye out now!

Cool! It's not a groundbreaking show or anything, but really entertaining genre tv IMO, so it's definitely worth giving a try.

I don't think it's aired in the US. NBC is running promos for a show matching that name and description for fall, which I guess is a remake, given your post.

I understand NBC is also a partner channel, along with CTV and Fox International. Wikipedia says NBC will start showing it on June 4, but I'm not sure whether that maybe changed or not. But I don't think it would be a remake.

Hmm. The ads make it look awful and like a note for note remake of Medium but with a guy so you've made me more likely to watch it.

I really enjoy it. 3 eps have aired in the US so far. So much h/c fanfic potential!

I live in the US and they just started airing the show here. Theres only been 3 episodes on so far but I can totally tell what you mean by the fanfiction. towards the middle of the season people will start writing more and more fanfiction, it usally takes a lil while. do you know where I can watch some more episodes? I really dont want to wait week after week.

Hey, did you guys know that NBC replaced The Listener for Law and Order? (or something else...) I think it's been rescheduled to air later in August. Where will I get my fix? D:

As for fanfiction, I've got one up in the making. Once I finish chapter one (yes, I'm just that slow) I'll post it onto FanFiction.Net - speaking of which, there's a great one (also completed) called "Family Reunion" by Silken. I'm sorry I can't find the link[s], as my Internet is running quite horribly right now. I'm not even too sure if this is going to post or not...

Anyway, hope you find what you need. Just mosey on over to FFN, TV, Listener. I'll keep in contact and tell you if I've got my story up.
