Merlin

Merlin is not good to their black minor characters. Two episodes, two dead black guys: first the assassin and now the druid guy. And of course last season Gwen's father didn't make it either. :/

However I really enjoyed the Arthur/Gwen parts last week, and that in this episode Arthur seemed to project his impossible romantic feelings across class divisions onto Merlin and Morgana, when he saw Merlin visiting her. Though I guess it is a reasonable conclusion, what with Merlin bringing her flowers and such.

I also liked how the show has Gaius suppress Morgana's powers with his drugs and such. I like how Gaius is at the same time likable and sympathetic, and yet such a problematic figure, because he collaborates with Uther in persecuting magic users and tries to keep Morgana ignorant and compliant.

And it seems the series it taking quite the dark turn in what both Merlin and Arthur are shown to do and tolerate in the violent anti-magic climate as well. More than before even. I mean, Arthur is shown to follow the order to destroy and presumably massacre (as there were to be no prisoners) whole settlements with women and children now rather than tolerating executions of specific magic users. At least I assume that more than just the head druid guy got killed in this raid, and only some of the others escaped the "no prisoners" order, even if we didn't see Arthur wading through blood on screen or anything. And Merlin when he finds out the names of who is to be rounded up for mass executions only warns a single woman, and that only to pressure her to give him information, which incidentally gets many of those people killed too, because he takes no care to cover his tracks.
