I was attempting to do a grayscale value thumbnail for my Trekreversebang artwork as preliminary to painting it, and couldn't figure out how the shadows would look, not even in so far as to roughly fake it. So now I have resorted to trying to make a rough pseudo-maquette simulating at least the broad masses. Of course I don't model or sculpt, so I do not have any of the materials or skills needed for actual maquette making. Instead I am making a contraption from some old cardboard, toiletpaper rolls and play-do. >.<

Unrelated to this, I still do not have the newest Dresden Files book, because I ordered the UK edition (which was sold about four euro cheaper than the US edition by the German Amazon), and that apparently came out a few days after the US one. But I did just get a notification that it's in the mail, so it will arrive soonish. I hope.

I just bought it last night! Borders was selling it for 40% off to people with a Border's Club card. \o/

It's still odd to comparison shop for book prices for me, because new German books are under a fixed price system to protect diversity in publishing and small bookstores (not that that really stopped the chain stores), so new books are only allowed to be sold at the regular price.

Heh, I've totally done that when trying to block things out. I've also downloaded some 3d modeling programs to try and use those, but then I realize I have no idea how they work and spend too much time fiddling and not art-making, so I go back to modeling clay and crumpled paper.

heh, I've gone through the 3D program attempt when I tried to figure out the perspective but once again (not my first attempt to operate one) I failed already while trying to put a plain cylinder on a flat plane, which reminded me why people attend specialized colleges for years to operate these things to become 3D-something-or-other before it makes a picture. As that perspective fiasco had not been that long ago, I hadn't forgotten yet that I am hopeless with these, and skipped right to the crafts-for-kindergartners method.

You're getting Changes or Turn Coat? I just finished Turn Coat and I am contemplating forking over the cash and getting the hard cover Changes because I don't know if I can wait until it comes out in soft cover :P

Changes. I read Turn Coat last year. Dresden Files is one of the few series I get in hard cover to read them right away, despite the greater expense, but I'm not dedicated enough to buy the even more expensive hard cover just because it would have arrived three days earlier (and would have had matching covers with the others I bought in hard cover -- I have issues from collecting comics for too long, lol).
