I wish they had just made that black girl the new detective's (sorry , I don't remember her name yet) biological daughter, rather than this convoluted drug baby adoption sob story. First, that would have avoided this awkward (and boring) exposition dump Mac and she had to deliver (not to mention that I found it a bit weird that he did a background check on her family for no reason I could see), and second, instead of some racist cliche about black drug addict mothers who can't care for their babies (plus the most cliched tv adoption reason too), it would have been an unremarked reality of interracial relationships. I mean, that was what I thought before we got the drug baby monologue, that she had a kid with a black father.
