I was right in my expectation that the successive attempts to give Leo the meds would be worse. Considering the scratches my hand now has from an outraged rat during a lengthy struggle, I might need gloves and towels by the end of the twenty doses he's supposed to take. (Also as usual after forcing medication Leo made me feel like a horrible, torture-inflicting monster.)

*winces* It's so stressful when you have to put a pet through this kind of situation, even though you know it should ultimately for the best. Poor Leo. :(

Yeah, even though I know that I'd be failing him worse if I didn't get him proper medical care, it still feels like betrayal to have to force him, and the terrified squeaking while he desperately tries to wind himself out of my hands doesn't help. And rats are fairly small and fragile in comparison to humans so I never really dare to immobilize him with all possible force. :( Well, at least I don't keep mice. That would be worse if you had to medicate, I imagine. ETA: Though his morning dose went slightly easier again, perhaps because I just grabbed him from sleep before he was fully awake and knew what was going on...
