That backstory makes the Jiminy Cricket character really creepy. I mean, I hope he is not supposed to be still sympathetic after we find out that he planned to murder his parents for being pickpockets and conartists, just because he didn't have enough spine to run away and break with them. Admittedly, considering his parents' gleeful reaction to the couple's puppet transformation, psychopathy seems to run in the family, so maybe they wouldn't have been a great loss, but still. And then his idea of reparation is to hang around the boy whose parents his botched plan killed, presumably without ever telling him about his role in their death.
