embarrassing finds

I'm trying to clean up my desk, to remove some stuff from it, so I am sorting through old piles of papers and scraps, that have been around for years, just siting on my desk taking up space in a filing basket. And I just found bad emo poetry attempts from some time in 1995, judging by the other stuff on the note pad. I don't even recall doing that. *cringe*

There is much truth to that it's really a kindness that we forget far more than we remember, and constantly adjust our memories to suit our present.

I have a private rule stating that we can all forgive ourselves for anything -- as long as it didn't hurt someone -- we did over a decade ago. Since I'm old enough to have chosen my own hairstyles during the seventies, as well as read Johnathan Livingston Seagull and write bad poetry as a result, this rule is necessary to my emotional stability. *g*

On the upside of finding that thing, the dream diary also on that notepad was quite interesting, so I'm not sorry I didn't throw it away.

Yes. And I haven't even managed to get the desk clean. I only got so far as to clean out the filing baskets of accumulated piles, and sort through a box of miscellaneous stuff that was mostly but not all trash that had come into existence because two years ago, when the guy who reads the meters on the heaters was due that year, I just shoved the pile of crap that was on my desk then into said box, and put it under the desk, making things look less embarrassing, but then promptly avoided ever looking at it again. Well until now.

I can almost hear all the people from these organizing tv shows, clamoring that I ought to have just thrown away the box, after not having needed any of it for over two years, but I find that ridiculous. I mean I would have lost some perfectly fine roleplaying dice, and two small rolls of gift ribbon. This whole approach of throwing things away sight unseen just to clean faster never works for me.
