WTF?

What happened to the AO3? It doesn't load for me, instead some "parked domain" page with sponsored advertising shows for me. Argh. I really need to learn to save stories I'm in the middle of reading, rather than just have FF remember the URLs in its tabs.

Well, it's reassuring to hear it didn't vanish for everyone. Apparently they posted in their twitter updates that there is some DNS problem that affects some user.

It's working fine for me, too, but apparently you're not alone. Their twitter account (https://twitter.com/ao3_status) suggests that some people have been getting a placeholder domain in different parts of the world, and 5 minutes ago they posted saying that they'd found the problem and fixed it and that the archive should be loading fine for everyone within the hour.

Thanks for the info! I never look into twitter, so I missed that, but it's reassuring that it'll be fixed soon. Still annoying not to be able to get back to the fic I started this morning right now though. *g*

Heh, yeah, it's back up and running. I didn't know about it until a few people mistakenly reported it to Webmasters (we forwarded the reports to Systems), but yeah, looks like they got it squared away.

Indeed.

Though I just found I can get to the site if I activate one of those proxy FF extension gadgets that allow you to circumvent geoblocking. Apparently that helps with messed up DNS too. It's a bit tedious, but at least I managed to get to the story I had started.

due to a typo in our DNS, the Archive of Our Own is currently offline for some users. The error has already been fixed but it may take as long as 7 hours to propagate through the system

Yeah, someone on DW commented with a link to their twitter.

I found that can get to the site if I activate one of those proxy FF extension gadgets that allow you to circumvent geoblocking. Apparently that helps with messed up DNS too. That helped me get to the story I had started reading this morning and wanted to continue.
