my reading attention span is shot right now

I seem to be unable to actually stick with reading anything right now, whether fanfic or pro. This is really frustrating, for my reading to be so frazzled rather than feeling immersive and relaxing.

I need need to find something that really hooks me. Unfortunately I don't even know what exactly I am looking for. Several of the things I started and then stopped reading were things I usually enjoy. Have you read anything recently that you couldn't put down?

I've had trouble sticking with tv more often even before, but being so disenchanted with reading on top of that is really frustrating. Part of my problem is I think is that I want to be hooked, but I'm not really in the mood for suspense type of reading, because I want to relax not feel more anxious, so the obvious stuff with hooks (thrillers, mysteries or such) are out.

The last tv series I watched through was Lucifer. That was fun, but I'm not that fannish about it.

do you know the mrs pollifax series? lighthearted spy novels. set during the cold war so they're really dated now, but quite charming. i loved those books as a teen. the first one is my fave...grandma accidentally gets recruited as a spy.

the modesty blaise books are fun too... a female antihero. i forgot what they are about. but i remember they were pretty badass and fun.

I've had enough forced grittyness and edgy darkness to last me a while. if i want to get in a bad mood i can just watch the news.

Never heard of Mrs Pollifax. With Modesty Blaise I'm only familiar with the comic strip, though I don't think I've ever read that.

I like grim'n'gritty up to a point, but it's not currently my mood. Like, I still haven't even watched the second Daredevil series, even though I enjoyed the first one and am a Daredevil fan (for which you need a fairly high grimdark and manpain tolerance).
