That was quick. It didn't even last a year (not counting the closed beta period). Not that I'm particularly surprised, because I signed up last summer when you could join, but then ended up almost never using the site.

Also, despite having an account, I did not even get an email from them about this. Though I think I may have disabled even import site update messages when I clicked "unsubscribe" back in April on the mails I got back to back about free plushies and pizza parties or some such crap, even though I had been fairly sure in my account creation that I didn't want promo messages.

But frankly the way site messaging was handled there was one of the problems that made the site unusable for me. Even now when I log in I do not see any closing message prominently in my notice box, just a whole bunch of "recommended for you" stuff. I had to click on the Imzy group to see their announcement from May 24th, and only learned about it now by accident after seeing talk elsewhere.

Apparently the final closing date is June 23rd. But I don't have any content there, so I'm not bothered.

I tried Imzy as well, but you're right, the way the messaging was set up made it discouraging to actually use.

I needed to be able to track conversations I was participating in, groups I was following, and important service updates -- not be bombarded with 'you might like this group' and trivial site promotions.

Yes. Both the emails and the way push notices were handled on the site was a major annoyance, because as you say, the priorities were totally skewed. It should not have been hard to get important service updates but not their plushie raffle stuff or whatever that was.

The fact that I couldn't easily follow conversations I was participating in was what killed its use for me. If it's easier to follow a conversation on Tumblr, something is severely wrong.

I don't think I ever was in any community that was busy enough that there were longer conversations with more than two people, so I never even got to the point of noticing that lack. Though I do vaguely remember missing that somebody had answered one of my comments. One of the less than five or so I ever posted.

Yeah, I got an "Imzy is going down" email from them a few weeks back. That sure was a lot of initial user goodwill that turned into a spectacular site crash and burn, I have to say.

On the other hand, it didn't crash and burn because of anything terrible on the part of the site runners, just because of poor design. And I guess sites fail all the time; it's just that fandom was particularly aware of this one.

I won't miss it; there was just one person on the site that I was actually interested in following and can't find elsewhere (a favorite fanfic author who isn't on any of the other social media I'm on) and she only posted a few times. I don't think I've even logged in since sometime last winter ...

A few weeks back? I thought the announcement was only made last Wednesday? That's the date of the pinned post on the Imzy community there.

Huh, you're right - the email is dated May 24. I thought it was WAY longer ago than that. So apparently accurately judging the passage of time is not one of my skills, heh.
